  • Seriously thinking about parting out my car. Opinions?

I've had it with this damn thing. It needs a fuel pump and both headlight motors and a power antenna motor and a drivers side window motor and both front foglight/turnsignal pods. I'm not putting another dime into it. The motor/trans/body/paint/interior is PERFECT. Is there any $$$ in parting the thing out? It's just sitting in my garage taking up space. Anyone have experience with this?

Why not just fix the last few things and sell it? You'll most likely get more money than parting it, especially if it's in that good of shape.

Well, I still owe a couple thousand on it. I'd be happy parting it out for $1000-$1500 then paying the rest off. I have Z E R O interest in keeping it.

but as it sounds, for a couple hundred more bucks, you can get it in nice shape to sell for at least several grand, so you would still end up on top, even though you putting more money into it now.

Send me or post up pics, I'm interested in it allready. I'm just down the road and could possibly take it off your hands in the next few weeks.

              What year/model.

I say put fuel pump in it get it on the road ten sell it.

parting out is a huge hassle. before you do that, I suggest you just throw it on craigslist as is.

I sold my Camaro for $2k with a bad motor. Yours is a much easier fix.

if you really dont want to touch it anymore, just drop it at a local shop with a list of those problems, wouldnt cost that much and i guarantee you get your money back and then some when you sell the car...

seriously though isn't a walboro like $180, then cut a access hatch, and swap it out.

Then sell it as is... a car that can drive with AC will get you ~$2k

I'd like to get maybe $1500 and it's a 1999 3.8/A4 with 106k. Pretty much everything works. Both headlight motors went out and I was tired of replacing them so I had the headlights welded in the up position. The DRL/fog lights are blown and the wiring is fried. I have no idea no that happened. The power antenna doesn't go up or down. The check engine light stays on but that's because of the exhaust setup. The motor and tranny are in fantastic shape. The AC blows ice cold and the heater blows hot. The power seat, steering wheel radio controls, windows, etc. all work but the d/s window is getting really slow so I think the motor is going out. The paint is honestly almost like new. It's garage kept and I washed and waxed it every other week. Tires are fairly new and the wheels have no curb rash and the finish is bright. Now I still owe about $3200 on it so if I sold it as-is for $1500, I couldn't transfer it out of my name for another few months which is a whole other ball of wax. That's why I thought I'd make a few extra bucks parting it out to pay it off faster then use what's left for target practice on my friends farm :D I thought about doing a LS1/LS2 swap but we have another baby on the way so that wouldn't happen for quite some time.
