I dont know if this should be in sound systems or here but I just need a quick answer.
I was talkin to a buddy and he was telling me that its extremely difficult to put an aftermarket cd player in the camaro to replace the stock monsoon tape player. like having to rewire everything or whatever.
anyways, is this true or is it just the same as every other car?
you can put it in but you will need all new speakers. Monsoon is a 2 ohm setup, 95% of the world is 4 ohm. It will play really really quiet... and not right.
Now... "I think" you might have to run a different speaker wire but I doubt it.

Actually, assuming you are right about the Monsoon system being 2 ohm, you would run in to the same problem as the Bose system. neither are difficult to add an after market head unit on, but the lowest volume level on the head unit will most likely be pretty loud. The head unit is made for a 4 ohm load, put the speakers only have a resistance of 2ohm, so it would play louder rather than quieter.
It's not optimal to run an after market deck made for 4 ohm at 2 ohm because, since the deck isn't designed for it, it will put unnecessary wear on the deck, and you shouldn't turn up the volume too high as you risk blowing out the amp.
no harder. I ran with an after market deck and not adapter for a while. Just couldn't get it to a low volume. All the adapter is in essence is a block of resistors for all four speakers. Get the right resistor, wire it in, and you can counter the loudness. I got the thing for free though so i didn't have to bother with that.
WHAT!!! I had monsoon audio and when I installed aftermarket stereo (LCD indash), it played perfectly. I had full music volume and as a matter of fact, I could never go past volume 10 when I can go up to 30...hopefully this helps....BTW, I remember the guy from "scoche" telling me some BS about rewiring but "96firebird311" told me it's a no problem .

yeah theres not a problem to just change your deck... been there, done that, with a pioneer premier deh-p780.... no loss of power or whatever the hell ya'll are talking about... everything worked perfect... and the sound quality was amazing... the only time you have a problem is if you try to change out speakers at which point you have to wire around the factory amp... for example, having to run speaker wire and what not...
im sorry that ive worked in a professional audio shop and more then likely know what im doing and/or know what im talking about and have done installations in countless vehicles... lol

Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
