  • I'm I over reacting

I bought a over the axle 3" madrel bent pipe from Summit Racing. I received it on Monday. Looked at it and one of the ends was dented in, like it had been dropped or banged against something. It wasn't even wrapped, just the pipe with a shipping label on it and the ends wrapped in clear plastic tape. I emailed them about it and they said just take it to a exhaust shop and they can expand it back out for $10. And they would reimburse me the $10. So I replied back and said that was poor customer service expecting the customer to take care of the problem. Taking their own time to drive down to a exhaust shop to do it. They said they would give me a $25 dollar discount on my next purchase to cover the exhaust shop charges and my time. I repiled saying I don't want the discount for $25, just refund the $25 back to my account since I don't know if I would buy anything from them again.
They said they couldn't do that it's either the discount or send the pipe back for a new one. I then told them they can send a return label and they can keep their pipe and refund my money. I told them I have never bought exhaust parts from them, I usually get them from JC Whittney and they bubble wrap their products and put them in boxes so they don't have damages. I also told them if they can't resolve the problem I would dispute it through paypal. I haven't heard back from them yet. You think I'm over reacting on this is or is it bad customer service?
I was just pissed that they said just take it to a exhaust shop to fix it.

Yeah that sucks that they pawned it off on you and made it your problem, but it's not worth sending it back and buying from someone else, If I were you...

Id have them refund the $10, and get a $25 discount and go to an exhaust shop like they said.

Suck it up, and drive to the exhaust shop.

They just wanted to give me the $25 discount on my next purchase and not another $10 to fix it, but I'm not buying from them anymore. So thats why I just told them to just send a return label and refund my money. I really don't need the whole over the axle pipe. I can still use mine, I think I could just get by and use a 3" 90 degree elbow to clean it up a bit more( it is from cutting and welding different mufflers on). I'll see what they say tomorrow. I was just pissed that they could give me a $25 dollar discount but not a $25 refund for my time and expense.

That is correct they would refund the $10 or whatever the exhaust shop charged or they would give me a $25 dollar discount on my next purchase which I don't need anything at the moment and if I did I wouldn't buy from them anyway. They will send a return label so I won't pay shipping but I still have to drop it off at a UPS store. So if they don't agree with my $25 refund, I will have them send me a return label for it and ship it back to them and get my refund( even if I have to dispute it through paypal). I'll either make my own over the axle or just try to fix my current one with some piping from JCwhittney. I'm just limited on doing the physical work on it, so I need to do it as easy as posilble, thats why I'm using clamps this time instead of trying to weld it with my mig. Takes alot more physical work welding up under the car. Also alot easier switching out mufflers since I have been through 4 different ones. My next muffler if I want louder from the Summit turbo will be a flowmaster 44 series 3" in and 3" out. I just would of thought Summit would have been better with their Customer Service since ths last year I spent Appox. over $500 this last year with them.

i go out of my way to purchase through summit even if the price is a bit higher (very rare). They ship lightning fast and they send summit hats to first time buyers and they never forget to send a catalog lol.

i used to work for AutoZone in college and after for a while.. we received almost all of our special order exhaust pipes in the manner that Summit shipped yours. Just had the ends taped and the shipping labels right on the pipe. I dont recall anything being damaged in 3 yrs workin there... Granted JC Whitney is doing a better job protecting the pipe, but it sounds like you just got unlucky with your stuff from Summit...

So, would driving to a muffler shop and having them take the ding out be that much worse than driving to UPS or Fedex and shipping it back?

Exactly.. Huge over reation here.. should have just done as directed shipping damage happens.. get to an exhaust shop have it fixed and send the bill for reimbursement.. it's not difficult nor is it a huge pain

                        Re: I'm I over reacting

Funny I would be the other way. I just ordered some tensa-barriers for work(the metal poles with weighted bottoms and the "spring loaded tape" that you use for making zigzag lines.

One was the head was really damaged. It was a $150 item, and I think like $30-40 shipped(shipped Fragile, and it weights 30 lbs.) And kind of large.

I asked the company just to send me a new head(its removable, and I will send them the old one) They refuse, and send me an entire new barrier and will have me ship the old one back.

They could have sent me a $75 part(probably less for them), and spent $8 shipping. But instead they gave me a $150 part, and spent $35-50 shipping it to me, and paying $35-50 to ship the old one back.
