    Re: a call for opinions!

The 3400 top end swap is a great way to wake up the 3.4L. Add a turbo onto that and you have yourself a serious V6. It's always more fun to have a sweet "underdog" then have a generic V8. Not to say anything against the 8s, but a quick 8 is nothing to be surprised about, whereas a quick 3.4 might be a little more fun to brag about :P
Personally, if I had the money, I'd buy a V8 for the sound alone

yes, winning a race with a v6 would put a bigger smile on my face than winning with an "OH MY GOD ITS AN LS1 camaro" its always more fun when the underdog wins.

and yes... the sound is amazing...

i think, depending on the amount of income tax return i get, and the availability of a mechanic-friend, i will be trying the 3400 swap... then maybe, much later down the road, i might try for a turbo. :)

After you decide which one you want to go with, then its time for bolt ons. They are cheap and simple. Do some research. FullthrottleV6.com has a weath of knowledge to be had on there. For 60 degree v6s (2.8, 3.1, 3.4) and 90 degree v6s (3800).

Sedain - LS1's do NOT cost 12k (MAYBE 5k MAYBE). LS7 is around that - and would cost much more because of the engine, trans, ECU, and the rest of the drivetrain required to make that work. Either way 12k would net him near 10 second 1/4 mile times with the 3.4 he has now, if he had that kind of money money.

You'll find there is a lot of support for your 3.4 if you do the research. Before you do mods, do a search and see if there is anything that may get in the way or any tricks some veterans can share with you to make it easier. If you can't find anything - feel free to start a thread and ask for help... thats why were all here!

And you can always brag that you spanked X car with a v6 Firebird :) Good luck!
o0o yea 10 hp  ...your comparing the stock 160 flywheel horsepower to the 3400 170 RWHP....and thats the lower number russle got with the smallport 96 heads. Now if you were as smart as you pretend to be you would have recalculated the 170rwhp giving accout for 15% drivetrain lose and found that your now comparing 160 hp to 200hp. either your a tool or were trying to mislead the man. /rant

if youve never done anything mechanical before it can take alot longer and cost alot more than expected.

Pay a shop $12k to put in a ls1... into a $4k car? End up with a car valued at less than 4k when some jackass totals it? :spank:
Buy a ls1 at $12k and be fast as heck right out of the box.
As long as it is not your DD, and you have extra cash, mod the heck out of it. If not, mostly stock is more reliable.

or spend 2500 and beef up the 3.4 to be a decent car

well, it is my DD, but some mods shouldnt be too bad....

anyone have any of the parts for the 3400 swap for sale? anyone have a ballpark estimate of how much it would cost me to get it swapped with intakes and heads P&P? without?

                    thanks :)

Reliability > coolness! I like to drive my cars not fix it all the time on a jack stand. I am the engine swap Nazi!!! i have seen two failures in last 8 months ...so, Don't do it!
