  • Swap 3800 S/C into a Road race S 10

    I have been racing a S 10 with L4 motor and now looking for more power.The L4 after a lot of work is making 155HP at 5500 and 165 T at 4500.I would like some input on the 3800 S/C motor? Can I use the T5 from the L4 or go to the Camero/Bird? What Bellhousing? The 3800 has a rear air in but that is not a problem.I will fab somthing up for that.What will it take for the PCM/ECM?Can I use the PCM/ECM out of the car it comes out of?? I dont think this motor had a manual trans? Can the PCM/ECM be worked with? Well lots fo ????
    Thanks for the input!!!

        V8 would put me in a class of full tube race cars.
        Here is what I found so far .

        Trans= 1996-2002 Camaro 3.8 5 speed
        Bell Housing = 94-95 2.2 S-10
        Flywheel= Camaro 3.8
        Motor= 1997-2003 GTP
        ECU/Harness= www.brutonauto.com $1575

        Will need to fab motor mounts.

          The 3800 S/c is a motor designed for FWD applications. It would require a lot of customizing and modification to get it to mount to the RWD S10.

            use a rwd block and S/C top end. now if you put a 3.8 in your going to need a 3.8 bell housing, the T-5 trans should work. now why don't you save yourself some money and get the ECU with what ever car you get the 3800 from and get HP tuners, that the best option you'll have. Caust if you were to upgrade the cam, injectors, heads and S/C you could tune it right then and there.

              Good info.
              Take a look at http://www.stalkerv6.com Good video.
              This ECU/Harness can be tuned.
              Because the truck has been racing it has lost all of its OEM harness.

                Re: Swap 3800 S/C into a Road race S 10

                seen them but the frame design its totally different. the 2.8/3.4 has a mount on each side, designed to be RWD, the 3800S/C had a torque strut style mounting and has a mount on the front of the block.

                you would need to modify the coolant passages just a tad but all in all it would be easier in the long run. using a 3.8 rwd from a 96-02 camaro/firebird would make mounting easier and you'll be able to make internal mods while your swap the top end on. cam, pistons, head upgrades (P&P doesn't do squat for FI) larger injectors. if your going to be racing it you might as we'll just man up and build one nasty 3800

                    If it were that simple then why has no one here done it?

                      I've been saying use teh f-bod top end on an l67 short block & then turbo it for years. Why hasn't anyone done it yet?

                      Why isn't dodge building the demon?

                      how soon before I do another engine swap?

                          cause the S/C doesn't fit under an f-body cowl easily, and I don't really deal much with 90* v6s...60*V6 FTW

                            I planned on dropping a 3800 II on my Mitsubishi Truck someday. I'm just waiting for the Calif. exception law to kick in for my old truck. My dad's friend owns a shop and he said he could fab me some engine/tranny mounts.

                            It won't be for racing though, just for DD. But the power will sure be nice. Imagine 200hp on a 2100lbs frame vs. 82hp on a 1920lbs frame. Plus with a Powerdyne SC that would be awesome.

                            Oh well I'm just dreaming about this right now.

                              Indeed...L36 and L67 internals are different.
