Well, its official. The Ultimate Aero built by SSC (Shelby Super Cars) shattered the world record for the worlds fastest production car. During the Guinness Book of World Records test in Washington State, the Ultimate Aero reached speeds of up to 257mph, killing the Bugatti. The powerhouse it uses is a 6.35L twin turbo V8, and the entire body is carbon fiber. Yes, the Veyron had 1,001 hp, but this monster is rated at 1,183hp and 1,094lb/ft torque! The Aero has half the engine of the Veyron, but this was chosen to save weight to allow the car to go faster. The Veyron delivers power to all 4 wheels, but again as a weight saving tactic, SSC made the Ultimate Aero only rear wheel drive with no traction control. This is where it takes the Veyron back to the sandbox where it belongs; if you want a Veyron, you have to fork out a whopping $1.6 million! Should you manage to get on the list for the Ultimate Aero, in which they will only make 75 in the next 3 years, you only have to pay...now get your helmet, you may need it...$654,000. Yes, for a car thats faster, and more fun than the Veyron, thats all you need. So, millionaire peoples...do you want the name, or do you want the fame? 1 Veyron, or 2 Ultimate Aeros? Hmmm...I wonder...As a thrown in bonus for you Veyron loving peoples, your Bugatti was tested to be stable only up to 255mph ONLY. The Ultimate Aero was tested to be capable to reach speeds of 273mph should the gear ratio allow! This test was done by NASA in their wind tunnels, so its no BS.

I'm glad I'm not rich so that I can't buy one, because I would probably kill myself

Or you can buy one of these for under $100k and win in absolutely everything but the nonsense top-speed battle (still tops out at 231).

                http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/laprecord.html

records held (tested with 720hp engine):
                0-60 - 2.6 seconds
                0-100-0 - 9.4 seconds
"Top Gear" track lap - 1 min 12.8 seconds

                AND it runs a SBC!!!

weight doesnt affect top speed, it only slows the time it takes to reach your top speed

Not if the car doesn't have enough power to get the car to the end of it's gears, whereas if it were lighter, it would.

I like how they do this and that to save weight... even tho the weight of a vehicle has almost nothing to do with the top speed it can reach.

The less weight, the easier a car can move through its gears. Thats why they chose a V8, and not some wacky-ars W16.
