my brother just got a new car... an M5 v6 1998 camaro...its like a midnight blue... pretty nice... only thing is... it seemed to have more throttle responser and quicker accel than mine... i have a 96 A4 Y87... so i thought i was supposed to be faster... is it because his is a manual? or the different intake system? or what? i was kinda confused...

Re: haha!
yeah... but A4 has less chances of lossing... *driver error in missed shifts* unless hes really good...
Horsepower is how fast you hit the Minivan... Torque is how far you take the Minivan with you... :wavey:

Thats why it feels more responsive.Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Re: haha!
the reason its a 2 part answer, 1) the T-5 has a 3.75 1st gear over the 4L60 3.06.
2) The 5 speeds came standard with a 3.23 rear and the autos have 3.08s.
so therefor on the V6 the 5 speed IS faster, in the 1/4(provided the driver doesn't suck) also the reason my 3.4(before the build) mildly modded, injectors C-B and CAI, could easily hang with auto 3.8s

Re: haha!
As long as he's not granny shifting you can beat him most of the time.
The cool thing about manual is that you can redline it at any gear while auto will shift it for you when it hits a certain RPM or load point.
Our auto is the same as the auto in vettes, so its stronger. Plus, in a straight line the only thing you have to worry about is your foot on the gas pedal. WHile with manual you have to release the gas pedal in order to shift.

also the Manual trans is lighter than the Auto.

Re: haha!
-manual is lighter
-manual is geared better in the tranny(5 gears vs 4)
-Less drivetrain loss(more hp ot the wheels)
-3.23 rear end
-he can powershift(shifts harder)
-he can raise his shift points
-no Automatic Torque management in the computer
-he can "feather" the clutch to finess a better launch
-It just cooler
need we go on?
manuals are pretty much always faster, go ahead and race him. Autos may be more consistant for the average driver. But I was pretty consistant in my 5-speeds, I once hit the same time down to the 1/1000th of a second in the same night in the same car.Last edited by DAS BOOT; 02-02-2008, 03:50 PM.

eh, manuals are faster to a certain point, certainly in this circumstance, but highly modded 9 - 10 sec cars will benefit from a built auto over a built manual.
a bit off topic, but just to point out that they are helpful in certain cases.
