  • quick s-cable question

I picked myself up an s video cable to hook my laptop up to my tv since my dvd player is broken. I plugged the round end into my laptop and the Red, Yellow and White connectors into the back of the tv and nothing happens. I went into the tv settings and there isn't an option to switch picture settings over to s-video. Anyone know what to do?

You explain this to be an S-video cable into basic RCAs? S-video is only video. yellow white and red would be video and stereo audio. You sure it's an S-video cable?

Your average S-video cable has 4 pins, that has 7.. It's more of a multimedia jack. Is your laptop output just a video out, or is it full a/v?

Are you sure that you made it so that your computer lets the video and audio out. On my computer I have to push F5, and then it lets me choose between having the video on my computer and the tv, just the tv, or just the computer. Try looking for a button to allow this to happen if you already haven't.

I can't seem to find a button here. F5 for me just refreshes. Do you know if there's a way to do it by clicking around?

If your laptop has a 7-pin connector, it's probably a/v.

Start by checking out the control panel. I couldn't tell you exactly what icon it might be, though it might be accessible through the display settings.

Make sure , you're connecting to the av Input section on the back of the TV ,not output.

Sorry, I have to push Fn along with F5 for it to work. Try that.

                        So Fn+F5

haha...Fn and F5 put my laptop on standby. I tried Fn and F4 with the cable connected to the tv and something pops up on my laptop saying no display device connected or detected.

I've got it hooked up to the tv where I used to hook up the dvd player before it broke.
