This is what I mean about Liberal Democrats. They don't wanna put up any walls between Mexico and USA. They want to institutionalize marraige between gay couples. And wanna control what cars you should be driving, and most of all they wanna tax the hell out of you.

I consider myself a conservative democrat - I am president of the BU Democrats and I think that a wall between the US and Mexico is a good idea but how are we going to fund it while still fighting a war? I think that homosexual couples should be allowed to marry because it the govt stops people now how far would they be willing to go when considering who others can marry? Do you want someone to tell you who to marry? If you want to save the "institution of marriage" why dont you start with the 50% divorce rating! I don't care what kind of car you drive, we just want to make them safer for both you and the environment. Lastly, we dont want to tax the hell out of you, thats crap, but how do you propose we fight a war and not go into debt? Clearly, the Republican party has done a great job of that, YOU CANNOT CUT TAXES AND FIGHT A WAR.

The paticular county I live in is overran with illegal mexicans. There is a constant uproar about it. They cant ask them if there illegal so the cops hands are tied. Heres a quick search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...gal+immigrants
The hospital in town actually had to shut down the maternity wing because there were so many people having babys and no way to pay it. No medical card and no insurance.

All those links in that google search, and those cute stories, have nothing to do with spanish-speaking children in the public school system.

Chances are, that was the real reason. Adding educational requirements, across even something as small as a county, isn't something that is done willy-nilly or on the basis of something like a 3-question survey.

There may not be a direct statement on BOE website saying thats why their teaching Spanish but thats like saying I'm fat but these chips have 0 trans fat in them. I shouldn't be fat. KY is ranked 36th in school systems across the nation and Shelby county is not exactly #1 in the state if you get my drift.

The philosophy behind requiring children to take a variety of courses is so that they develop into a well-rounded individual.

So is requiring them to learn a foriegn language contrary to the goal of developing a "well-rounded individual"?

Here's a hypothetical for you people upset about having to learn spanish in public schools: Would you honestly feel any better if they required your child to learn French? What about Latin? Che cosa circa imparare una punta piccola di italiano?? Wie steht's mit der Deutschen Sprache?

I have lived in Ft. Lauderdale/Miami/Orlando FL. Probably one of teh top 5 spanish speaking areas in the country.

I have been in a school system in classes where I had 5-8 kids that did not know 1 word of English, in my class with a paid for tutorer to help teach them. **** 2 weeks ago I dealed with a lady, that wanted a refund at work, she was uneligible for a refund, but she started speaking spanish and looking confused thinking I woudl give them a refund.

BUT... I speak poor spanish, and understood she said, I want my refund *******. To which I said, NO you are not getting a refund... THEN she turned and started speaking in full fluent English, whey won't I get my refund. ***** was trying to hope I would get frustrated give her waht she wanted to get her out of my face.

I have been in a store and see a little kid see a candy bar and say... Mom, I want that... then see the mom smack the kid and said in spanish... "Thats not your language, speak spanish its your heritage, respect it"

I am not against learning more languages, and I am kind of against the law that was voted for.

But I feel, people should speak english in this country, I go anywhere else I expect to lerarn enough myself to get around.


The constitution is in English, the Bill of Rights is in English, 99% of the country speaks/knows englisht. You want to live here, learn the language, the same way I woudl learn french if I lived in France.

And Conservative Republicans want to drill for oil everywhere, forget the poor and unemployed in the country and tell them to fend for themselves, even after a huge natural disaster, send jobs overseas, give tax breaks that favor the upper crust of the US, and force their Christian beliefs to those who do not care about their religion, nor worship it.

But a list of what they have done...
Sent jobs overseas.
Let the people of Katrina deal with their own "problem".
Support a war that costs American lives with no end in sight.
Smeared their pro-life propaganda everywhere (same people that says kill the enemy, I love hypocracy.)
Put us into a recession on an accelerated pace.
BTW, in the 8 years G-Dub has been in office, he has YET to formally announce any real plan for immigration, or any type of deterrent (wall).

If you need Christian conservative Republicans to tell you what is morally right and wrong, you're a mindless, walking waste of air and flesh.

Im beginning to think more and more Republicans LOVE communism, how else can they pay a bunch of people to do repetitive jobs at a LOW cost, to keep their profits to record highs, while getting lax on their quality checks? Thank a Republican for sending your job overseas to help Communist China.

Thank god. I'm getting tired of paying these outrageous prices because we have to import our oil from foreign countries.

I would say it's "adding" to development of a "well-rounded individual". Especially if it's a language that is becoming widely used such as Spanish. I won't go into detail, but let's face it, it would be wise for everyone to become proficient in it.
