Are you serious? 91 octane only clears out gunk from 87? You dad has to use 91 in his bb vette because he's running pretty high compression ratio. The higher the octane rating, the longer it takes to ignite. Higher compression ratios cause more heat, and increased heat can cause pre ignition or denotation. If a performance application you want to run as much timing advance as possible before it starts to ping(denotation). Using higher octane allows you to run more advance without the pinging.
Your car has knock sensors which won't let it ping. Your computer controls your ignition timing and when it senses pinging, it retards your timing.
