well a few months ago when I was working at pep boys I had a large truch come in and the wheels where rusted on. I decided, for some reason which is beyond my comprehension at this time, it that it would be a good idea to try to kick the back of the rubber with my heel. Well I missed hit the weight rim or the wheel and it hurt like all hell, I played Mr. Toughguy and kept working and it went away. Today, however I went to sit down and hit my heel against the chair lightly, and my heel where the Achilles tendon is is bright red and dark blue in spots. Anybody know if I should put heat or Ice on that?

Ice probably isn't a bad idea.
Its most likely just a bruised hell. Hurts like a ***** to walk on and it would be best to stay off of it, but really who can go a day without walking?
Just take it easy and don't put tons of weight on it. Gotta walk wit dat gangsta limp naw i'm sayinBlack \'94 Trans Am A4- SLP CAI & Loudmouth<br />Red \'93 Firebird A4- Ram Air under the WS6 hood, !cat, exhaust.

Re: Well I Really did it this time...
I tore my achilles tendon from doing Donkey Calf Raises. I needed surgery, but the doc. told me that I would be on cast for 10 months. Or, I could leave it be and let learn to work around it.
I chose to work around it. I can't afford to be not working for 10 months. Plus I didn't have insurance to begin with.
It took me 3 years to walk right. My brain literally had to adjust to how I walk. I was always limping, esp. on cold weather. Right now I'm fine, as long as I don't run or jump I'm fine.
Anyway, icing it sounds good. Don't expect it to heal quick because for one thing blood doesn't circulate through the tendon. It will swell up for a couple of day and it will be tender. So try not to pressure it. Give it as much rest.

Re: Well I Really did it this time...
Get that checked first thing in the morning. Very first thing. Make them squeeze you in. It may not be anything, but given the age of the injury, it could be very critical. The blue spots could indicate a torn tendon, vessel, or tissue necrosis(tissue death), you do not want what can follow. At the very least it could potentially be clot formation which could lead to heart attack or stroke, if it's tissue necrosis, waiting could mean very severe consequences.
For the record, I'm an LPN.
Edit 3.
NO ICE. Or heat for that matter. At this point, both present big problems.Last edited by Gatt9; 02-19-2008, 06:49 PM.

Like I said, this will take a long time to heal. Continue to ice it and then use hot pad. Alternate the two. Now don't put pressure on it. If you need to walk don't do the plantar motion with your foot. Just walk with your heel. You're going to be limping alright. If it's really bad to walk on it use a crutch.

Wrap it and ice it for the night. As MT said, keep it elevated.
