With that said if you are looking for a fun reliable roadster with a top that take 3 seconds to put up and down then a miata is a great buy.

You're an idiot. The miata in question clearly has a leather interior and although it is 6 years older than his f-body it still put's his interior to shame. Although that doesn't take much with an f-body. Also, it's a 1.8 liter inline 4 not a rotory. Why don't you learn about cars before casting judgement on them.
Your right, I don't know $hit about any miatas. I've drivin a few and they are just way too small AND slow. Everyone i've drivin was the biggest piece of junk i've ever been in. Mind you they weren't "new" but still. If something brakes on it I hope it won't be hard finding a part for it. I hope this guy doesn't run it and blow the engine. I know he won't cause he's not looking for power he is looking for more fuel efficient. I'll trust a little caviler or neon over a miata just by the ones I have drivin. Like I said before, IMO

Sounds like you've been driving the wrong Miatas...

      1) "Small" is a relative term. My dad has a hard time fitting in the passenger seat of my Camaro. For me (a lofty 5'9"), a Miata fits like a glove.
      2) They're very reliable when taken care of. 100k is considered broken in.
      3) Parts are really easy to find and cheap, Ford, Kia, and other Mazdas use the same or a version of the same engine. Not to mention they're easy to work on, since the engine isn't trying to hide from you.

I would look into new insurance, 360 is a heck of alot for 7-8 year old v6, im 20, have 1 parking lot accident on my record and never took any of the stupid driving classes, and i was qouted 546 for 6 months on a 99 trans am, fully loaded. if you dont have any accidents check out state farm, theres pricks when u do get into a accident and almost always kick u off their policy but until then they are cheap as can be. when i was 16 i drove my soon to be father in laws 70 chevelle ss for about 4 months(won a bet with him and he sticks to his word, and no he wasnt my father in law at the time, thats a recent thing ) and they only chargered me 112 a month, and the car is as close to mint as you can get without being a trailor queen. 3 years ago it was valued at 41,000. then 5 months later i was backing out of a parking lot in my first camaro and some b**** hit me and told the cops it was my fault that i pulled out too fast and she didnt see me, yeah 4 cars in the whole parking lot...of walmart..... yep i get a call the next day that i have 24 hours to find a new insurance company:eek: right now i have progresive because they give a very nice multicar discount, but even with just the trans am on they quoted 625 or so for 6 months and i could pay monthly for a extra $2 a month.

If you had commented on the looks of the car or something of that nature then "IMO" would have been relevent, but you called it a rotory and clearly know nothing about the car. I doubt he will have any trouble finding parts. Mazda has sold well over 800,000 Miatas world wide. The cars are slow in a straight line, but that isn't what they are built for. They are plenty fast when driven for their purpose.

I have no idea what Miatas you drove...probly the base models. This is an M-SPEC. Basically, a SPEC Miata. SPEC Miatas had whats called the Z-package. the Z-package was the best and is the best offered on an MX-5. Thats all the options, high flow cat, lighter pulleys, tuned suspension, and a muffler equivalent to Y86 package on some of our Camaros. Yes, it doesnt have much power. No, its not slow. Just take a look at the Lotus Elise...4 cylinder Toyota engine...just barely over 200hp, and it can beat a Corvette off the line. Its the weight, not the power. Like I stated before...I have driven both the NA series and the NB series. the NB series has 20 more hp than the NA series, BUT has about 200lb more. Weight is key in low hp cars. Thats what makes them fast.

                Re: Shoot me

This is my final decision...I will keep my Camaro and push through until April. When I get the bonus, I WILL be purchasing a Miata to turn into a track car. I'll look for an older 1.6L to buy at around $1500, and slowly convert it to a Camaro 3.8L V6. I'll so something different from what everyone is doing, so I'll have the unique factor as well as a mid-high range sports roadster that might one day outrun Z28s. I choose the 3800 because of its weight. 200hp in a 2070lb car is perfect, and combining it with a custom transmission built by a friend, I think I will be an unforgettable racer. So, total, I'm going to budget out $4000 for the entire Miata project, keeping my Camaro. Sounds like a plan?

                PS...sorry about the double post.

I guess im the only one looking at the safety factor. I would have no intentions of being in a 1 ton car that gets hit by someone, and a Miata has NOTHING around it to stop an oncoming car. Might as well shoot yourself before you get hit. Gas efficient or not, a Miata is not safe IMO.

6 point roll cages are about $300-$400. That covers everything, even the dash and the trunk. I will only purchase a weld in, not a faulty bolt in.

Roll cages don't protect head-on collisions with another car, nor do they protect against side-impact collisions.

I understand where you're coming from, but it will strictly be a track car.

                          Re: Shoot me

I can not believe some of the crap you post. Honestly. You can lower your insurance to $120 per month, but can't do it because they need $200 upfront? Pay attention here, use your $360 that you're gonna pay next month to cover the new insurance. You're leaving something out of the story if they're charging you $360. I paid less than that at 19 when I bought my 00 Firebird new. Jesus H. Christ. Every time I read one of your posts I want to beat myself in the head with a claw hammer. Fix your car. You'll probably get better mileage than the miata as long as you don't beat the snot out of it. I just checked, a 1996 Miata got 21 city and 26 highway. You can do at least that in a V6 without really trying.

My final point here is that don't put a cage in a car that you're gonna street drive. You're only going to hurt yourself more in an accident. New cars are designed with safety features to reduce injuries from your head striking interior components. Putting big metal bars around your melon isn't too bright unless you wear a helmet in the car all the time. I think I hear Darwin knocking....
