I love the sound of an LS1. Everybody loves the LT1 but it just sounds like a truck to me.

Something Ive noticed. At least around here. Most Ford ppl setup with H-pipe, and Chevy ppl use straight or X-pipe...

        X-pipe LT1

defanetly, i have a 600cfm carb and it just blows past the idle circuit

teh engine gets so much fuel the plugs are fouled out after 5 minutes of running

it doesnt help having a crappy HEI ignition too

you can tell the car is getting way too much gas, either because the carb is too small or he has the timing so far retarded it isnt completly burning everything

                    cam98aro,

Are you running an edlebrock, holley, BG? What fuel pump are you using? Are you using a fuel pressure reg? I had to put one on my camaro because I have 130gph holley fuel pump pushing around 7 psi. Anything over 6psi and my edelbrock carb floods the engine. I set mine to 5.5. Holleys can be set a little higher.

                      im running a holley 4160

no idea on the fuel pump, i can tell you this though, when the car is running the fuel filter is only about 1/4 of the way full

im running the carb with the idle mixture screws completly closed, it is bypassing the idle circuit, which i dont know why

                            cam98aro,

I don't have any experience tuning Holleys, but you should do some searches over at camaros.net.

                              yes, that is my thread.

i forgot about that, but the timing needs to be set so far advanced for it to run clean, but then the idle mixture screws still go not work.

in order for it to run good with the timing, the car wolnt rev passed 2krpm without backfiring through the carb

i talked to some people and they say the ignition is the cause of most carb problems

Most of the time it is. What is you initial timing and total? I'm running a msd ready to run distributor. I put in the 25 degree bushing and set my initial at 11 so my total timing is 36 degrees. I also put in a light spring and a medium spring so my advance is in before 2500rpms. Is your distributor a tooth off? When I broke in the cam on my 69 last week, I was a tooth off. Car was a sob to get running and I had to turn my distributor so far towards the drive side just to get it to fire. It backfired etc. I pulled it out and moved it a tooth over and bam it fired right up and ran great. Is your cam installed straight up?
