  • i think i have a problem!!

The other day i was trying to install MSD wires on my car. On sunday it was cold, but clear, so i decided to work on it. So i took off all of my stock wires and replaced them with the MSD wires, and about an hour and a few cuts and scrapes later i was done. When i started my car i was like WTF!!! It was misfiring like crazy!! The idle was very rough, and my exhaust smelled like pure gasoline ( running rich i think ). So i acted quickly and removed all the MSD wires and put back on my stock wires to see if that was the problem. Guess what, NOPE, it was still missing bad!! So, now i'm like what could it be? I took the wires out to find out my back right spark plug was so loose i could take it out by my hand! I fixed that and checked the rest of them and made sure the rest were in the block properly. It is still missing bad, rough idle, hesitation. Check engine light flashing, but when the light did stay on i got code p0300, enging misfire detected.
To make a long story short i took it too my local Chevy dealer to get it checked out, the said we need to replace the head gasket and cylinder 1 and 3 are misfiring and need new fuel injectors too, parts and labor $2,000!!!!!
As we speak i'm getting a second opinion on this by a mechanic, hopefully its not near $2,000. Never again am i ever going to change my plugs and wires without a trained pro, i felt like putting my head through a wall today at work, i was very depressed :( . By the way i have a 01 v6 camaro, slighty modded, auto.

sounds like a scam...you sure you put the wires back in the right order?...maybe you just got bad coil packs...but my guess is that if it was fine before you started you mixed up the order of the wires...one way to check if your headgaskets are gone is to open your rad cover when its cold then start the engine up...if it bubbles consistently then they are done...shouldnt bubble at all really.

a bad head gasket wouldn't make your car run like a dog...bad injectors would, but if you were running well before you wire swap, well I'd be hard pressed for them to go out all of a sudden...and you smelled gas, signs of richness. Something bad injectors wouldn't do.

          Stealerships...stay away.

You wired your car wrong...do them again. Search for proper placements of wires.

If before changing the wires your car ran fine, and right after the change it's all crazy, ummmm yeah, you messed up the firing order ..... what engine is this ? 3800 or 3400 ...

I'll post 3800 one so that you don't have to look for it

            YOu're welcome!

EDIT: just saw it's a 2001 , so the above diagram works. BTW, if it works, send me some of those 2000 dollars to my paypal address.

            :)

change your plugs, check your wires....

you might have other issues but even misfires wouldn't cause the problems listed.

i just had my other mechanic look at my car and the 1 and 3 cylinder wires were crossed, thats it, car fixed! I can't beleive Chevy wanted $2,000 for this and my mechanic did it for free! Well i gave him a $100 tip for helping me out.

I would call them up and give them hell about that. They prob would have kept your car for a week and not touched it other than switched the wires back. If you have that in writing go to the BBB. I hate when people try and pull that ****. Charge $80 to look at it at most and switch them for free as a convienence don't rip someone off.
