After almost 8 years with the same HP Pavilion 7960, I finally invested in a new mobo, processor, and some memory. With a few extra parts I had lying around, I managed to get a MUCH better computer for all around use.
But after having that HP for that long, if I were ever to buy another whole new system again, I would get another HP. They are seriously indestructable.

You must've got lucky on that HP...Or I got multiple lemons, as the 3 HPs I've owned previously were crap and blew different major components with light to normal use.

The specs on this computer aren't something to brag about, but it gets the job done. AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4ghz processor, MSI mobo, and I can't remember the memory, but its SLI 2gig. It actually has the capability to use a few of the old parts from my other comp, as well as upgradable to a good degree. I figure I can use this as my backup once I get the money for a nicer comp, and my old one will be parted out.

Small world. I just got off the phone placing an order to build my new computer as well. Core 2 Quad Q6600 (gonna over clock it to at least 3.2GHz), 680i mobo, 4 Gigs RAM, 1.6 TB hard drives. My wife is getting my old one (P4 2.4, MSI mobo, 2 gigs RAM), which by the way is replacing her HP. The HP is old and slow as hell, but it's still running.

I have to agree with the pavilion not very good.. I have been working with comptuers for over 10 yeras now. There business series vectra are VERY good but pavilion.. always been dissapointed in performance wise. I build my own pc's and just upgrade now.. MSI are a nice inexpensive choice for m/b. and I like AMD processors.. no good reason hahaha
3.2Ghz is not overkill and 4 gigs.. be sure you get 64 bit OS otherwise you will only utilize 3 gigs of ram. So wasting a gig!! I know support is limited so that.... Get a nice water cooler can overclock it very well :) don't forget you can overclock video card at the same time :) why 1.6 Terrabytes though.. seems a odd number..

He does graphic and video editing for a living.
I'm thinking about building my own mini-itx computer as a media box. I'm trying to figure out what exactley I need then I'm going to try to put it into a cigar box or something so when it's sitting next to the tv you can't tell it's a computer.
I've hated my compaq. They're very limited to upgrades (anything besides replacing the MoBo) and tend to refuse them :(. I've been thinking of replacing the motherboard in it, and then upgrading it, but then why not just build a whole new PC? :)
I have something similar in setup, with the copper heat tubes and turbine design. Mine has two fans though. It's louder than snot on full power, but very effective...anyway, that's what the fan controllers are for :)
So my truck is finally getting some work done, after 17 years, Oil pressure sensor went out and it’s located under the lower intake manifold. Have to...
