I CANT TELL IF THIS IS A SCAM OR NOT. I mean it sounds like it but there are some things that make me believe that this seller is legit. Please read this and let me know your opinions. Thanks!


I asked for pics and questioned why the car was listed in boston but is now in alaska. This is the repsonse I got.

Here are the pics.

We used to live in Boston but we have recently moved to alaska, I'm an US Air Force Lieutenant currently stationed in AK.

The car will be shipped from Alaska on my expense. Usually the shipping takes 3-5 days depending on your location and the car will be fully insured during shipping against any damages.Shipping will be door to door,to your home address,somebody must be home when the car arrives to sign for the reception.It will be shipped crated and i will put in the crate a cover for it and two sets of keys.The title and the bill of sale with the original manuals ,etc..will be together with the car.So once you get the car,you will receive the paperwork.

The payment will be done through eBay. They will act as a third party in this transaction. You will send the money to eBay and as soon as the payment is confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. I will ship the car, you will receive it and will have 5 days for inspection, both the car and the paperwork. During all this time eBay will hold the money into a trust account.So, this is not a blind transaction,you can see the car before decided to buy it.If you are satisfied with the car and decide to keep it you inform eBay about this and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back the car will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.
Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car and make sure everything is as agreed.

If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.

I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Well I'm pretty sure he's insinuating that it is blatantly a scam and you're not too bright for knowing.

ask eBay about it... im sure they have a fairly competent fraud team that could answer your question...

I wouldn't do it because ive never heard of ebay offering anything like that. The best way to tell if it is a scam is to ask for there phone number. 99% of the scammers will not give it to you or give you a fake one. If he gives you a phone number, do a reverse look up on it and see if hes in alaska. if he is, then there might be some truth to it. but if it were, i wouldnt do it.

If he gives you a phone number, do a reverse look up on it and see if hes in alaska. if he is, then there might be some truth to it. but if it were, i wouldnt do it.

e-bay does/did offer links to 3rd party trust companies that would do what he describes, E-bay itself did not offer the funcionality.

Go to E-bay, track down the links to one of those, tell him you want to do the deal through them. You give the company the loot, they hold it until he and you confirm delivery, then they transfer the money to his account.

I think this is the best advice, say you have frequent flier miles and time off work, you'd rather pick it up.

Or, sign up another account, ask him the same question you asked him, and tell him you live in alaska. then see what answer you get.

Here's a huge factor that might say this is a scam...In the mind of safety of our US troops, we are NOT allowed to reveal our rank/rate for the purpose of a sale, or any other transaction of everyday life. We are, however, allowed to reveal that we are in the military, but to give a rank with it is unsat. For instance, if I were to sell my car, I would simply post that I am in the Navy and need to get rid of the car before I move to Alaska. THAT would make more sense than saying I'm a Lieutenant in the US Air Force. Also, the prefix "US" seems a bit fishy to me, because I just say I'm in the Navy to those who ask. In order to confirm this, ask what his job in the Air Force is, and I could tell you if its a legit job for the area or not. I also find it highly unlikely that someone spent money to ship the car to Alaska, and then turn around and ship it back.

Anyone who could type a paragraph without putting a space between any of the periods or commas could never actually orcastrate such a complicated transaction.
