    Re: mitsubishi eclipse sypder

If you want an Eclipse, save up for a new GT (2006-up). 3.8L V6 263 hp. As for being a chick car, I don't know about that.. there are plenty of guys that own new ones. As for reliability and build quality, I'd have to say that both are excellent. The car is TIGHT, has an awesome interior that is backlit blue, a 650 watt Rockford Fosgate stereo with a subwoofer (and sunroof) and an overall more modern look to it. (Make sure you get the sun and sound package.) It's also equipped with 6 airbags for safety. The only issue I have is gas mileage, but that's probably because I modded mine. I get about 23 mpg which isn't bad, but could be better since I commute with it. There are a ton of aftermarket parts for both the GT and the GS, such as superchargers, cams, headers, exhaust, underdrive pullies, and suspension parts. I have had mine for a year now with NO issues whatsoever and I put about 18,000 miles on it so far. The car is FUN. It gets looks and compliments everywhere you go. You won't be disappointed.

Well, judging by my experience, I'd say that's one "house slipper" that I'll continue to wear all day long.

That's actually the second time I've heard that description.

It weighs in at about 3300lbs. which is a bit heavy just like the V6 Fbodies. But it still does low 14's/ high 13's in the quarter. GM should've had the 3.8 put down those kind of #'s. V6 fbodies weigh the same (or more) with less power and only run 15's. And a 3.4... hell, the 4 cyl. model would have no problem trouncing one. So, in reference to getting rid of the 3.4 for either Eclipse. I say DOOOOO ITTTTT.

                    Re: mitsubishi eclipse sypder

its more about getting a newer used vehicle than getting a bran new vehicle so I won't be considering a new eclipse. If I had that kind of money there are tons of cars I'd consider: I'm thinking G8 or a small SUV. I'm only considering the eclipse because its a convertible and 2002 Camaro convertibles, even 3.8's, go for well over $15,000 around here over $6k more.

                    Here's a pic...

it has a lot of squared lines, so I'm not exactly sure where ppl think I'll need a sex change to go along with it. Yeah its more feminine than an f-body, but its not completely emasculated.

you're nuts... show me a stock 3rd gen eclipse running high 13's... they dont exist. especially in convertible form. I spanked a 3rd gen GTS in my camaro when i first got it, and im pretty sure my car isn't in the 13's

well i mean seeing as how were talking about a 3rd gen, we should probably refer to the numbers that a 3rd gen is putting out

its like talking about buying a 3rd gen camaro, and using the LS1 as a comparison for a powerplant... they arent the same car

Shirl, you do have to consider that our drivetrain have been the same since 1995. Very few V6 back then were 200hp. Stangs V8 back then was only 215hp. Very few GM 3.8 with an 11:1 compression ration were at 298hp. These were used on the Intimidator Monte Carlo.

It wasn't till 1998 where more V6 were in the 200hp bracket. GM didn't bother to update the drivetrain anymore because it was on its way out. Today, we have 3.6 at 268hp.

Eclipse 3.8 V6 is actually heavier than our V6 f-bodies. The I4 is about the same weight of the 3.8 V6 Camaro.
