You break the law, and you get caught, and then complain when they go the full extent of punishment? I don't break into houses, I don't drive uninsured, and I make sure things like that are taken care of.

and yes, I know that because the COP THAT HAD MY CAR IMPOUNDED said that was the NORMAL guidelines but in "special" cases cars could be towed any time. Trust me, I asked him about the "by the book" rules about this specific situation.

An expired tag is an expired tag...no matter how many stones you look under.

You're angry because he towed your car...because your car, technically, is illegally operating on the streets...personally I don't see the issue. Thats like people getting mad for getting pulled over for speeding...if you weren't speeding or if you have current tags, this thread wouldn't exist would it?

yeah i agree with original poster, that is very harsh just for an expired registration. He should be fined, and just given 30 days to get it re-registered. NOT TOWED, that is above and beyond.

and to the above poster, yes its illegally operating on the streets, but it should only get towed if its A) needs to be searched for kontraband, drugs etc. / for crime scene investigation, or B) if the vehicle is dangerous to any other bystanders.

to the OP: You are sure to win the case and get reinbursed for the tow charges since you already looked up the law in your state

When I was in Norfolk for IS 'A' school, I had a 300zx that got impounded ON BASE because it sat for a week on a flat tire. The day I get the new tire was the day they took it away. I would have it today, but the radiator decided to rupture...so I sold it to my room mate...

Cali sucks azz.....end of story....I got pulled over and had no insurance card and in new jersey thats a $1000 fine and immediate impound. he let me go but I still got $160 in tickets

exactly, i forgot about my registration until about a week before it was up (i actually paid it, i just lost the card/sticker) so i went out and paid an extra $21 to get a sticker, i could have just let it go, but i didnt because i knew my car was going to get towed.

that is just like somebody slamming into the back of your car because their brakes failed because they wouldnt replace them, then them trying to tell you they wouldnt have slammed into the back of you if they got their brakes, and trying to get away without paying to fix your car.. you wouldnt like that would you?

I can't blame myself for having my car IMPOUNDED for expired registration. It's not but a couple of months past due. Seems a little extreme, ya think? I could see a ticket but having it impounded? Are you serious?

A couple of days I could agree. But a couple of months, no way. Remember to register your car next time.

However, I hope there is no damage and I do hope that you get it back soon.
