  • has the current economic situation affected you?

Ok other than high gas prices has anyone out there seen any real issues that have affected your bank account?
    Lost jobs?
    decrease in wages?
Lack of a raise/promotion that you had coming but has now been postponed?

Gas, energy and food prices have affected everyones real "disposable income" so if you can show where you have had to cut back in other places to afford gas to drive to work or pay for food/utilities throw that in.

At this moment all I'm doing is riding my motorcycle to work any days possible to balance the 3.25+/gallon gasoline prices.

Aside from that we have cut back on some luxuries at home in order to pay down some bills and save to buy a house in the next 6 months but this has nothing to do with a recession.

***please keep politics out of this, I don't care if you think it's the republican's or the democrat's fault****

I'm just looking for people that have seen their real income affected in the last 6 months due to the recession/slowdown.

I work for GE doing testing on home appliances. I do contracts of a year on and then get laid off for 3 months, then come back. Well sense housing is down, home appliances are not selling like they were, there has been effects. First there was no double time on Sundays for full time, which didn't affect me at all. Then they said no overtime at all, which was almost a 50% paycut for me. As of now, nobody that is a contract and not full time employee is coming back. So in 2 months my contract ends and I need to find another job. Kinda stressful:(

It is really sad that the middle class is crumbling. It kills me to drive my truck- 05 f250 since it gets 10mpg. To save i try to drive as little as possible. Unfortunely i see the problem so widespread, Got laid off from work and what not. The rich get richer and the others continue to struggle

            we've cut back all over.

t/a stays parked more often, ive put maybe 100miles in the last 2 months on it.

we've cutback on going out to eat a bit and go out less than we used to.

we've put off getting cable/internet or dsl for a while now since its not that essential.

we bargain shop alot more when grocery shopping.

current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

I will be riding my motorcycle this summer... I don't like riding downtown with the bike and parking it at work but gas is killing me. Also, me and the misses were going to move up to that deluxe apartment in the sky, but funds are saying otherwise. Buying the Crown Vic didn't help that out much either :D

I work for a mortgage company. House loans. The market sucks, so no one is buying houses. No one buys/refinances=no one comes to us for loans=hardly any business at all. Luckily I'm paid by the hour currently, whereas the loan officers are paid but the amount of loans they do. We are one of the few truly honest loan companies I know of, and all the crap in newspapers recently about how loan officers are ripping people off and screwing people over isn't helping us any.

I work in the Airline Industry. Jet fuel prices are through the roof. Luckily I have a very short commute to work, so the gas prices are not killing me.

Re: has the current economic situation affected you?

I've cut back on driving, and cut a lot out of my expenses. Mainly due to my desire to increase savings and try to jump on the housing market next summer/fall. I feel pretty secure at my job - the industry I am in is booming and we've already collected revenue for contracts that won't start until almost 2010.

Re: has the current economic situation affected you?

I have a short commute to work. BUT, I will admit when buying a car I was really looking at trucks and in the end... I said **** it. Higher insurance, higher gas, higher cost, and how often would I really use a truck as a truck, and not just a means of transportation.

I am not so worried about gas, but I have really cut back and planned my driving better. That is more because I am trying to keep mileage down on my car, I was really racking up miles. I'd rather hit the 3 yr mark then the 36k mile mark on my bumper to bumper.

                      (I was doing 2k miles a month, now around 600-700 a month)

As for recession, me and the wife are planning for some severe hard times, trying to round up some money plan ahead for what we are doing the next couple years, cutting back on frivolous spending, hoping we can pick up a nice foreclosed house in the next 2-3 years.

As for my work... they love me, I save them money and cut costs, actually just got a $3500 a year raise, given an account, where I get another $140 a month in bonus(not much but hey its nice)

I am prepping my 401k, saving paying off the debts, saving, paying off the car early, etc....

btw the some goods about a recession....

My car payment fo $260 a month. Now that the dollar is worth less, I am paying "less" for my car, so it works both ways.

Re: has the current economic situation affected you?

I have been making about $450 a week now for two months, or atleast thats what I am supposed to make. With the construction industry at a standstill due to low home sales, it affects us all, including the ones that never get in a new house to do anything. I worked 6 days in February, made a little over $500 for the whole month, with rent being $600, and STILL had to fill my tank on a weekly basis, which is $50. Im HURTING right now for money, I have little of it.

One of two options, start pumping oil out of domestic ground, or start putting the hybrids and E85 cars in high gear at the manufacturers place. Even cars with 30 mpg is not helping anyone when they are averaging a $200 a month bill to get to and from work.

Well I feel all you guys's pains with the job, if it werent for living at home id probly be living in my truck, I just put gas in my tank today and it was $50. I really dont have anything else to add seeing as how I go to school full time and dont have a job .... a tank of gas usually lasts me 2 week if I dont go to the mall or anything. Gas in the town I go to college in is $3.16 right now and in the city I live in it's $3.30 and over. The sad thing is the only difference between the two is about 12 miles ..... :(
