  • Ok, just screw it...I gave in

Ok...after a rusted out radiator, new piston, new intake manifold, new coolant, and 3 flushed radiator jobs, I just decided to get a new engine...

    Here's the scoop...
New(er) 3.8L Series 2 taken from a totaled 2002 Camaro that was hit in the rear by an SUV. 34K miles and rebuilt when taken from the car. Its going to cost only $2500 with all the parts and labor needed. Its supposed to be ready later this week...I hope...

Re: Ok, just screw it...I gave in

Something went wrong on the way to Ft Worth for my drill session in the Navy...I live in Oklahoma City, so...yeah...About 40 miles away from the Texas Oklahoma boarder (going down the Arbuckle Mountains, I started to lose oil pressure. about 3 miles later, it dropped below 20 psi, and then right as I get to Ardmore, it started to go into the red, so I got off the highway to check it out...it died on the off ramp after the oil pressure went to zero and stalled before the light. I let it sit for 10 min, then started it back up and struggled around the corner to a gas station. About 3 hours later, my family came followed be a friend of mine who drills with me to give me a ride, while my family waited for the tow truck. It was there towed from the gas station to Fenton Chevy in Ardmore to be checked up on...they told me the engine is shot and needed a new one...they quoted me $6500 for a new engine...its not worth it...I could get an LS1 for that price AND have it installed. This morning, we went to go get it and trailer it back to OKC. My mechanic got me the deal on the newer engine and agreed to do the work cheaper because this was the result of 2 mistakes his associated made in the past. The engine also comes with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty...kinda nice if you ask me for a used engine.

geez, check around a bit more, you are getting owned on that engine if it is used and not brand new. Anything upgraded in it or was it rebuilt to stock specs?

I did. Its the engine I want because during the rebuild, it has been outfitted with a smoothed out throttle body, aluminum cylinder heads, and I'm getting the new computer for it. The air box thing (the one between the air filter and the tb) also gets taken out. New rockers, springs, and high flow intake comes with it, because the previous owner was building it up apparently. Although 30 days is great, a year is better. Between us, it gives me time to beat it a bit and get free fixes under the warranty.

we don't have aluminum heads for our car man, at least if we did they would be more than 2,500 alone since they would be one offs.

what he is saying, is... there has never been production alumninum cylinder heads made.

If they told you you had alum. heads installed they lied to you.

Unless you mean you had alum. valve covers?

You really need to do your homework. If Strtracer98 did not point this out would you really have thought that this engine had aluminum heads? Do you know what aluminum heads look like versus iron heads? I really think that you need to consult an automotive expert near where you live before you drop any more money into your car.

Why isn't the original shop paying for it???
