I paid 2800/yr until one night at college I got a call from my insurance company saying I was in an accident around 11pm-12am on Nov. 30th/Dec. 1st, 2007. An accident I go? How could that be, I'm at college. I was also passed out on another campus after getting out from a play. They told me it was in my old 1985 Camaro that I haven't driven in 3 years. The person making the claim apparently has photos of me driving the car hitting them and running off as my "passenger" also takes pictures and makes fun of the man (later found out it's a lady). So then they told me it happened in area near my home, which I haven't been near since last August. I relayed that information to my company. A week goes by, they call me again and said they changed the incident time from 11p-12a to 4pm-7pm. Either case I wasn't 50 miles due north from my campus. Well to make a long story short--my insurance company paid out 380$ to a person with no police report. They are holding me liable dispite me having evidence (ticket from a play, cell phone records, credit card transactions, personal eyewitness testimonies) that I was nowhere near the area, yet I'm screwed over. My insurance rates went from 2800/y to 5100/y.
I'm currently in the middle of fighting this, and they are denying my right to see the photos of "me" hitting some one and taking off. Mind you hey say it's a nice clear shot of my face too. They are denying me from seeing the photos. I have no clue how they got my name, since I'm a secondary driver on the 85 Camaro. Said the person's age was between 17-23. I might be 23, but I sure as hell look a lot older than 23 because I usually have a beard. Meh.
Everywhere I get quotes now they are all around 4000-6000 a year because this accident that I was never in is on my record. I hate new jersey.
dude that friggin sucks. i'm paying 60ish a month liability only. car's paid off, two speeding tickets (in my camry), 19 yrs old.
my g/f says if you are / or have ever been insured with progressive it's bad for the future,
something like other insurance companies like mine "selective" will not insure you for that reason alone.
I wonder. Is Progressive any good? They gave me a damn low quote today.
I started using progressive when I bought my Camaro back in November. So far they've seemed pretty good. Before them I used AllState and they were OK too.
Anyway, I pay $145/mo for basic liability. If I add collision it more than doubles even with just a $500 deductible. I am 21 y/o with 2 speeding tickets and 2 accidents (one at-fault, one not-at-fault).

Im not sure why, but apparantly it's bad.
I highly doubt that is true, otherwise you could get on their case for discriminating.

I haven't had a major claim but a freind of mine did with them, adn I can say from what I saw an my minor claim I have nothing but good things to say about Progressive...
Now Geico... **** them in the *** sideways they ****ing blow.
I used to pay $875 for 6 months full coverage on Camaro, then $300 for 6 months on Mustang(liability only). $1175
I know pay $950 for a 2k Z24 Cavalier and the G6. And get better gas mileage.
I pay ~$50 less a month in the G6 vs the Camaro
I pay ~$30-50 less a month in gas in G6 then Camaro
I pay $0 in repairs which is ~$150ish a month less then the Camaro(this wasn't including the new engine I had to put in the car) I also get free oil changes.
When I broke it down, I think it was costing me less then $100 a month to drive a 7 year newer car that was new and under warranty, and powertrain is under warranty until 2012. Vs a Camaro with a whining power steering pump, junkyard motor/tranny/rear, and the roof cut off with a circular saw. :)
Not as cool of a car but funny enough I think the G6 would have given the camaro a run for the money form a roll race.

Geico is the insurance company making the claim against me to my current insurance company. Not even sure how they are doing this without a police report.
yeah, i have a clean driving record (no moving violations or accidents). MY car is on the same plan as 4 other cars. i pay 3200 or so for my camaro, and somethign like 2500 for my 92 dakota for just liability...
2002 SOM Camaro- Sold
2006 S60- Sold
2000 Cherokee- The desert whip

I "switched" to them, was $150 per 6 months cheaper.
All good to go, then I get a call, we made a mistake, we have to cancel your insurance now, or raise your rates.
I say ok, whats the rate change? I figure in the $150ish range to compare with what other companies quoted. NO, $1200... Thus bumping my insurance to ~$2200 for 6 months(over $1,000 more then any other company I got a quote from)
They said I could cancel now, or accept it. Well funny part is, I was in the middle of a roadtrip to south Florida, so cannot cancel the insurance on my car I have a loan on in the middle of a roadtrip on the highway and cannot easily sign up with another company. I think it was ~5p.
I accept it, go back to progressive and cancel Geico... Figure they will refund me but prorate the amount I already used. Thing is they were ****s, and said they would only prorate me at the new "quoted" rate. I *****ed up a storm but no one did anything(what would they do, they already know they lost me as a customer)
The new rate was $366 a month for a G6 and a Cavalier. I had to pay ~$180 for ~2 weeks of coverage from geico. I pay less then that a MONTH with progressive.
oh well they got my money all I can do is ***** about them whenever peopel talk about switching to them.
Progressive has had my back, and also offers a few coverages for free. Example, they cover up to I believe $2k in pet bills if you get into a wreck with a pet in the car.
