i always wondered since the more cylinders u have, the bigger engine u have, u end up having a deeper sound...y is it once u get to v10's and v12's that sound is virtually gone to a quiet mellow like lambos......is it the exhaust layout or something to do with the engine, i heard b4 that firing order matters and some other stuff which i dont recall

Re: always wondered this about v8's +
It has to do with the firing order. The way the V8 ignites creates a deeper tone than most other motors. Just about all V10/V12s I've heard sound very high pitched, even with aftermarket exhaust. I'd even say some of the 6's on here sound better than them :)~97 3.8L V6 Camaro~

dont forget over head cam playing a big part in the sound.
Here's an old countach but with a pretty much open exhaust this is what you would be hearing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foDcLUhUKqILet's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.
