There's a Fiero up for sale in my area. I saw the ad on my local newspaper. 1987 Pontiac Fiero,Garage kept, 60K miles, Runs and drives good. Asking price $1000. How are these cars? I know Thor has one of these. Can they be used as a beater car??? Are they reliable??

Is it a V6? Does it have 3 or 4 speed auto or is it 5 speed stick.

They're are as reliable as a 2.8 Firebird. Which I would say is somewhat reliable.

By the way if its a 3 speed auto, I wouldn't get it. I made a mistake with mine.

The newspaper I saw that in it's at my work place. I'll try to find it tonight and see if anything else is listed... I believe it's 4 cyl because he mentioned something like "good on gas"... which is fine ....this is gonna be a beater anyway... I'll keep posted!

i have a 2.5 in my firebird. Should be virtually the same engine in that car. Its reliable. The auto 3 speed is not highway friendly. Mine is TBI, gas mileage is 19ish, but then again, mine is in a f-body.

Yeah, good ole Iron Duke is probably good on gas.

The 3 speed I got sucks gas like a mad dog. I mean at 75mph, I'm at 3600rpm in 3rd gear. So it sucks gas on Highway, but great when your going 35 at 1900-2000rpm-gas last for a long time. Fiero has a small 10 gallon tank anyway.

It's awesome though from 0-45mph, it's faster than my stock '98 Firebird back then, but becomes anemic after that. I remember racing an IROC Z and I beat him from 0-50mph. That's when he caught up and pass me. 1995 Miata never caught up and riced up civics gets blown away. I've yet to race an (non-turbo) MR2.

I hope to someday drop a GTP in mine then I'll hunt for a turbo MR2.

            -------------------------------

If it's manual I would definately hit it.

I knew someone in Virginia that had one. He loved it, but hated the repair aspect of it. The engine is simply hard to reach, as our v6's are. Same goes with an MR2, but you like it, take it.

I use to want a Fiero badly when I was in highschool. Still wouldn't mind driving one. The only thing I ever heard was the v6's had an overheating issue, but I don't know how true that is.
