I don't believe, given America's current economic situation and due to public opinion, that we need to be in a war at the moment.

Yeah, I was going to address that in my post but I felt it was getting kind of lengthy anyway.

For some reason this was has not boosted our economy. I don't know why and I'm not going to act like I do know, but I'm relatively sure it has to due with not much production needed for this war.

somewhat, its only true when the military needs mass produced things like tanks and guns/ammo and vehicles or planes. ww2 is a good example of what it can do for the economy, this isnt due to the fact we arent losing tanks and planes or vehicles at the rates we did during WW2 so theres no need for the US to be a around the clock manufacturing god that we were then. (which led to people having the money to spend to stimilate the economy and bring it back to life)

Yep, and then there was that whole Baby Boom thing when all the troops got back, which pretty much started suburbs.

I just got back from Iraq,
I will send video,pics of the work we do there to anyone who wants to see it from an infantrymans point of view.
I am not a war-monger, but I personally feel like I left before our job was done.

I wonder if our economy would be worse w/o the war. There is spending on armor and other research, but I agree, there is no spending like for WWII.

i think we'd still be in the same situation, everyone just uses the military being in Iraq as a crutch as to why the economy sucks instead of blaming the jackass politicians and their lack of doing anything constructive in the past 10 years.

x2 ..... the economy is slowly runnin back into a depression like in the 20's. I do feel it needs to go back up and the american public showed that last week when the japanese dow or NASDAQ closed at a HUGE loss.

we'll never run into another depression,theres to many safeguards that were put in place after the great depression, but we're well on our way to a recession, funny thing is they are giving us money back now with this stimulus package, and most people plan on using it to pay bills, not buy stuff.

This is true, The average American today is about 30-60,000 dollars in debt, so naturally if you get money back you're going to pay some bills down or off. I know I would if I was in debt.

Gas Prices are high, home building is at a low. So no one is buying homes but instead using that money to get back and forth to work to do the same. The government could ease some of this if they would:

A: Stop selling Alaskan oil to Russia and use it here to decrease our dependency on foreign oil.
B: Use some of the reserve oil and put it in the market to make the prices go down atleast $0.50
