Re: Got my first credit card.

I have a bunch, and only like $4500 balance cause I put my down payment on my vette on my Amex Gold last night :) I was contemplating putting the whole thing on it, but the dealers rate was better than my Amex rate.

Sure, why not. I'd pay it off before the statement cut anyway. That would be a good reward point month :)

Cash is king. Not fond of cards, cards can fail, especially when you need them most.

Besides, the car dealers like when you show up with $5000 in cash over a check, card, or cashier check.

I believe last time I checked which was 3 months ago, my credit score was 740+ which is pretty good IMO ..

I am always on time with my credit card bills and I thought that's all it counts to keep a good record... I absolutely ignored my cell phone bill... i used to be late, forgot to pay for month, payed partial etc ... When I looked at my Credit Score 4 months ago, I saw this weird slope going up and down reflecting that in the history...my credit score went up and down because of that.. I was surprised... NOw, I have automatic payment plan with ATT wireless ;)

                  :)
I thought I'd be one of the only ones here with that many. I too use one for gas (3% back), one for food etc, - they all have their different rewards. Three of them now still have 0% intro rates. They are almost maxed out, I'm sure that's why my credit score took such a dip to 706, then again I have about $10-12k of revolving "debt" (the cash for it is in my ING account paying interest). Credit cards get a lot of people in trouble that can't properly manage them. I've made hundreds off of rewards and interest over the past few years, never paid a dime of interest back to any of the companies.

Re: Got my first credit card.

                    damn you guys are novices...

I have had cards since I was 18. I currently have ~$30,000 availible on my cards. I collect massive amounts on points and have only paid 1 interest payment ever.

Just about everything I buy goes through my credit card.
-at least $800 in credit rewards cashback
                    -$200 in gadgets
-$1,000 off the price of my G6.

Not sure I would have gotten through alot of stuff without them. Just get them and be responsible with them. Don't buy if you can't pay it off,

Re: Got my first credit card.

Guys, take my advice, or don't.....

If you don't have the cash to pay for it then do not buy it. Credit cards will get you into trouble very fast.

I do have a few, all with $0 balance.

I use them for business dinners and such, and I pay them off in full at the end of the month.

Pay it in full, or do not buy it!!!

Re: Got my first credit card.

The thing is being responsible with one is fine.

I have one, I have put thousands upon thousands, literally 95% of anything I buy goes through it, **** I think I am going to try a balance transfer check to do rent.

That being said I don't buy anything I can't afford to pay off. I go online at least twice a week and pay it off.

I take the points and use them, and build my credit.

Your score goes up if you have revolving balance, good income to credit ration, and long life usage of a card.

I got a pretty good rate on my G6 for the loan, and I attribute it to my credit. When I first started out, utility companies always required I make a deposit with them, because of my credit was nothing. I built it up, they don't anymore, I get anything I want.

Its dumb not to have good credit, just takes some self discipline.

score goes down if you have a high revolving balance
