Ok, so the title *is* a little over-dramatic.
Hey everyone -- who actually remembers me? Hehe. I was around a lot in the earlier days of the forum for those that don't. Good times.
So a couple weeks ago I was sitting on a highway, waiting in a long line of cars (the exit from the 408 to I-4 for those of you in Orlando). I hear this horrible screeching behind me and look in my rearview to see an altima surrounded by white smoke (locked up tires). That guy was *booking*. Tried to punch it into the next lane, but as you can probably guess, I wasn't fast enough. It is a *really* nasty spot for accidents apparently. I witnessed 4 other accidents waiting for the police, and one happened just a couple minutes before me, see cars pulled off to the side there almost every time I pass it. If you live in Orlando, and that is backed up, keep going, get on I-4 a different way until they finish the new exit.
A bit over $7,000 in damage to the car. The insurance company wanted to call it a total loss, and after a little contemplation, I decided to agree with them (they actually left it up to me). Pretty much sucks as the firebird was my first car, had it for 7 years. Surprisingly enough, I got $8,500 from the insurance company -- the car had pretty much every upgrade, and the 75th anniversary option seemed to up its value a bit.
As a quick aside, State Farm is a good insurance company, I've been rear-ended twice, and both times they have put my deductable on the other guy's insurance and generally made the process easy for me.
So, the car is gone. I'm planning on getting a decent used econo car for about 3k and banking the rest for now. In a couple years I'll be in a good position to get a nice project car (Grand National anyone? :-)).
Even though I haven't been around in a while, it felt like something I should post. One less firebird on the road :-\
Hope everyone is doing well!
