  • Car break in question

So apparently someone broke into my roommates car last night. I didn't speak directly with her, but my other roommate said all they took was her registration and insurance docs out of the glove box. Any ideas why they would take that? Someone said maybe they are trying to get a key cut at the dealer, but I don't know how factual that would be.

It's kind of scary that it happened in the driveway of our townhouse. There is a clear view of our house from the street and it was pretty bright out last night.

I'm assuming you've already called the local authorities. Theres not going to be a whole lot they can do with her registration and insurance, especially when they don't have her ID (or whoever's ID the cars the under) Thats really odd and makes no sense to me why someone would only take paperwork like that.

They could go claim ownership of the car and have it towed. All it takes is a scanner and some time, and then bam! they stole your car.

Or they could use the documentation for some form of identity theft.

No, not if she has the title, or if the bank does and it's in her name.

Bank has the title. Car is a 06 (i think) civic hybrid which makes it more reasonable for them to steal in my mind. They also left **** like her purse and sunglasses in the car. Of course knowing her there was no money in the purse.

The most important question here is, Is your roomate hot?

Its been done before here in Oklahoma, because the person who had the documents stolen lost her title. The only thing they had left to get the car back from the thieves was the fact that she had pictures of it with her in it, and repair documents.

Jokes on them! They will just be stealing debt.

Can you really get enough information from those documents though? I mean it's basically just name and address.
