plugs can be done from the top with the right tools and small hands we got 6 of mine from the top but the front 1 on each head had to be done from the bottom.[/QUOTE]

its called optispark because of the optical sensor used in it. other than that its pretty much the same thing but driven by the cam pin. its a pain in the *** to fight with, not so much because of pulling the water pump but pulling the goddamned AIR pump bracket and finding room to screw with it.

once its running good you'll love it.
check out cfmperformance.net, we're getting a pretty good lt1 crowd that can help you out as well.
thanks van. do u have any clue as to why the car would have white smoke coming out a year and a half ago but not now?
btw, personally if it was me, id just go ahead and replace the head gaskets just for peace of mind. might as well get the upkeep in order now. if its sat for a long time its going to need alot of things replaced.

how hard is it to replace the head gaskets? and what else would u rec. i should replace now?
Like mentioned beforehand; watch the coolant levels, keep an eye on the condition of the oil, watch for signs of overheating, or any unusual smells. My old car had a blown head gasket and had a slight burnt smell at times, overheated, and would slightly smoke/steam under the hood. It sat for a year until we sold it and didn't show any of these symptoms when I started it up and took it to the buyer. Oil was clean and everything.
Anyway, congrats on the buy! Looks like it has potential once you clean it up.

ya, pulling everything is the biggest pain. the gaskets arent that hard. just make sure everything is tourqed to spec and done right, you dont want to warp the heads.
things id repalce...
head gaskets
intake manifold gasket (they love to leak on the backside)
tb gasket
fuel filter
02 sensors (ac delco brand)
spark plugs
wires
opti and coil (msd for both)
check the EGR valve out see if its in good shape and check the PCV valve.
you'll probably spend a couple hundred bucks , but in the end you wont have to worry about **** going out one after another and nickel and diming you.
after that it should run good and strong.
hows the oil pressure look on it?

Try topping off the coolant and letting it run for a while. If it goes down and the oil and coolant look fine you might have a intake gasket leak.
i rather have that then the head gasket. but i will still change them like van said im just a little scared to do it i done a headgaskt b4 but it was on a 440 so it was much eaiser then this lol
