  • Vista = fail

So it seemed like my motherboard failed...until I ran the boot disk. Thankfully, I saved myself about another $600 in a laptop at the cost of alot of time. It took forever to find the files to reinstall my wireless receiver. What happened is Vista updated itself, like usual, but rewrote a system .dll file. That .dll file got picked up by AVG7 anti-virus and got deleted. When I tried to reboot my computer, it looked for the file, couldnt find it, and didnt boot at all. So I spent all afternoon finding all the drivers and ****. Now Vista is as slow as a *****...much worse than ME ans 2000 combined. Help on getting the system back up to speed?

I ate a bowl of fail this morning.

taha! I don't plan on ever using vista. By the time XP is no longer supported there will be new versions of windows.

I currently dual boot XP and unbuntu and I have to tell you the majority of the time I'm in unbuntu.

        Re: Vista = fail

Many of the new computers that are being sold now with Vista don't have drivers for XP for some of the hardware components, so if you install XP, be ready to hunt for some XP compatible drivers for those devices.
Yes, I know \"Artic\" should be spelled \"Arctic\". Can any of the mods change this?

Bingo.. Vista = windows ME to hold us over to the god like windows 2000. The next Microsoft OS shouldn't disappoint. I will never switch to vista, way to much of a resource hog for my likings. You should really downgrade to xp again!

Isn't that a fail for ACG7? Windows 2000 is by far the best version of Windows to date. I still run it on two of my machines.

I've been working on computers since before there was windows. Go back to Win2K. I have a laptop with XP and a desktop with 2K. When I get the time I'll put 2K on the laptop. Win 2K is stable and not as much of a memory hog. Just my opinion. DOS and Windows for Workgroups was SO much faster...

schedule a check disk, and defrag the system. If it doesn't work then, you might have to totally remove firefox and reinstall it from the website.

no **** DOS was faster. But it had so little capablility, limited use of memory, no protection from apps corrupting the OS, limited API for drivers the list goes on. WfW was just an app on top of DOS. 95/98/ME were crap. NT/2000 were the first real kernels out of MS with some real engineering behind them. Slower, of course, but much, much better. I like 2K because it is stable and lacks all the junk whiz bang crap that wastes cycles.
