Probably for the best. Set me straight; 6 years later, no tickets, no accidents (knocking on wood).

me too, first car was 82 bird, damn telephone pole jumped out in front of me as I hit the e-brake to make a 90 degree turn. Use to do lawn jobs all the time. I paid 600 for it in 98 so you can imagine how great of a car it was.

I agree with this. Reason being..if they buy a nice car with their money they are less likely to screw around. In theory they will appreciate it more.

haha or you could do like my dad did...get em a nice car (considering their grades are good and they're good kids), then simply tell em "ok, you're on ur own...keep it running, cuz it's all you're gettin' from me"...

this is what my dad told me after i got my pipes on, the day he bought me my Camaro...

          "happy birthday, son"...

          followed closely by...

"ANYTHING happens to it, it's comin out of ur pocket...i aint spendin no more money on it"

i'm more careful knowing i have to pay for it if i tear it up lol

exactly... I can't even think of how many kids I knew and even see now ****ing up cars they didn't pay for themselves.

Once my parents started helping me less on car related expenses I wasn't near as hard, still pushed them a bit but not as much.

Just form a manager point this is always a good principle. You put someone in charge of something that they work with.

Example, your breakroom at work is always dirty and trashed. You could A, have the janitors clean it nightly giving them more work and possibly cost you more. Or B, put employees in charge of cleaning it. This way, the employees work harder at not ****ing up the room in the first place so it stays cleaner overall. If they are going to have to spend extra time/energy cleaning it, they are less likely to make it as bad in the begining.

Not everybody. I broke the frame taking a jump, but I technically never crashed it.

oh wait, I did park it in a ditch on the VERY first day driving. only bent a tie rod. Does that count?
