i got pulled over for my tint and a blown headlight.... he metered my window...it said 12% my good question is why it is readign 12 when i got the tint off a roll of tint that was labeled 23% .....hummm ....**** that ..it was wet and night time so yeah ******* its gunna look darker..... FAIL

f-body windows already have 7% built into it, so it's not going to meter as 23% when you put 23% tint on your car

that's limo tint.

i believe stock is around 95%, so your window should meter about 18%.

I was speaking in the same context as the OP, so I meant that 7% of the light is blocked

Are your windows pretty dark or can you still see in easily at night?

We'll find out. If I was guessing, I would guess you were not speaking in the same context as the OP. When I got pulled over they tolf me 35% was ok give or take a few and it registered 22%. Meaning that it only allowed
% of light to come in. :stp:

The percentage is the VLT, or Visible Light Transfer. If you have 35% VLT tint, It allows 35% of sunlight through the window.

Stock tint is 95% VLT. Where did you get your tint? Some batches can be up +/- 5% VLT off from what the tint is labeled at. And as for what the tint does to Factory tint, think of it this way. I used to work at a dealership who offered window tinting.

Stock tint is going to be our base variable (BV). The Tint we put on will be X (remember that percentages are actually decimals in algebra, i.e. 50%= .5). Actual Tint will be VLT

So that being said, (BV)(X)= VLT

So if factory tint was 100%, and we put on 23%, then (100)(.23)= 23% VLT

But since our cars are 95%, and he put on 23%, (95)(.23)= 21.85% VLT

And that's what the car should've metered at. 21.85%.

We have to measure in relation to what we started with, and not just 100%.

If you want to fight it, ask them to check the calibration charts on his meter. He may not have properly calibrated it. The meters aren't affected by sunlight, so that's out. Either way, If the limit in your area is 21% or less, you shouldn't have gotten that ticket unless you got one of those bad tint batches.
