if it was in advance they would document how much you got then take it out of your tax refund next year. not that hard to figure out.

It depends, whether they are filing joint and how many little bastards they have running around ;) I dont remember exactly how much you lose for every 5k above that, but it's not that much

I'll put it towards saving for a house/rainy day. My tax refund I will be putting about $800 into fixing the wife's car, so we are less likely to have a rainy day. Then the other $2600 of the tax return is going in savings.

the last timne this happened, it WAS an advance, and the $$$$ counted against any federal return.

I don't recall that when they went out before, it certainly didn't affect me the following tax year. What's the point of a "stimulus" if they are just going to ask for it back. The point of it is to stimulate the economy by giving you money to spend. It won't work but I appreciate any free money I can get.

When you get money from the government its not "free" money. Its your money.(unless on welfare)

The purpose of it is so people go out and buy stuff, increase profits among businesses, they give people raises, peopel with raises spend more money, etc... Thats why its only given to a certain income bracket. That bracket is very likely to take it and go blow it on something.

yeah that's about the only thing the media is good for. I think most people will be scared into saving or pay down debt asap.

Absolutely. The media has a huge impact on people's opinions and perceptions. This stimulus package will fail partly because people will save it.
