    Re: downloads

Used to use limewire for music, but slowed down on that once some local arrests started going down. Haven't used much since, just get copies from my friends.

Downloading copyrighted material on limewire is illegal... people got caught downloading songs and movies. Legal action was taken.

Actually just had a big to-do about a woman that was forgotten and left in a holding cell over the weekend after being arrested for selling pirated movies.

I can capture songs legally with my portable satellite radio. I just can't transfer it to any other device.

That would be because it isn't illegal to download music in Canada. The supreme court ruled that it isn't consider copyright infringement. It is also why you get charged a levy on all recordable materials. The government has yet to find a way to get that money from the levies to the recording industry though. This is still going through our court systems and at some point will probably be overturned.

Personally it baffles me how I can be stealing something when after I get it they still have it. The only thing we are doing is not paying for it. The recording industry has been gouging the consumer for decades, releasing 99% chaff with 1% wheat and expecting top dollar for it.

I can't believe the crappy movies the last few years has released. At least if I download it the only thing I really wasted was my time watching it. the smart thing to do would for the recording industry to set something up with the ISP's collecting a tariff from users. so instead of paying 20-50 odd dollars a month they would jack it up to 75-100. Then they could stop wasting money going after kids for downloading a song. I know most people would pay the extra amount for internet since we can't live without it.

                        oh yeah, I use bittorrent.

Selling pirated movies i totally disagree with though. Now you are making what should be someone elses money. They don't get it and you are stealing it.
