except cell phone companies dont have a monopoly going on...they are each there own provider...the oil companies pretty much all get there oil from a common place, its a conspiracy...I used to work at a gas station..

Seriously you believe that? Nobody has a monopoly in this country. That's one thing the govt does well at controlling.

every 5 hours or so one of the guys would go on a drive to see other ppls gas prices and call it in, and ours would be changed accordingly...they play games with each other...

That's called competition, every industry does that everywhere in the world. If they didn't do that then prcing would be all over the place.


I can't believe that people really buy into this crap and think there's some global conspiracy going on.

Yes! That is how is it suppose to work.

OPEC does have a monopoly on oil production, but that has been relatively stable and is only part of the equation.

OPEC does yes, no doubt I thought he was referring to the big oil companies. I may have misunderstood, it's been known to happen once every couple years, lol.

opec hates us therefore we're going to be paying more than usual at the pump. deal with it. there's nothing the people can do about it. yes the government could put a cap on it, but they're not. wanna know why? cause they're greedy just like everyone else. they get paid by lobbyists and "special interest" groups to not do that. everyone wants to get paid. the problem is not going anywhere.

Gas is going to go up and fluctuate no matter what anyone does. Very little of oil price is affected by supply and demand anymore, it's more based on what the us dollar does. When our dollar is strong oil is low, poor economy right now, ****ty dollar, oil is high. The thing a lot of poeple don't realize about big oil revenues is this. Most oil companies only net about 7% profit, that's signifigantly lower than pretty much any other industry out there. If they came out and said they're total revenues were 118 million and they're net profits were 7.8 million they made around 7% and people might even feel bad they made so little. Instead they make 118 billion and net 7.8 billion, guess what same 7% but a bigger number so people think they're ripping everyone off. Just simple math, they're operating a business as anyone else. My advice sit back and enjoy the ride because there's nothing anyone of us can do to affect it.

7% is profit and the rest is what?...taxes?...so then there is something the government can do isnt there....man Alberta is RICH with oil...infact I believe we actually supply you guys with a large quantity of oil but for some reason you guys are paying 3.xx something a gallon while we are paying over $5 a gallon....do the math man $1.30/litre x 55litres I fill my car up with when its empty....Im paying $71.50 to fill up my damn tank a week...sooo I know what the first person is gunna say...take public transit...give that a month to Hike there damn prices up as a result....for f**ks sake they just announced beer is jumping up $2 for a 24 cause of oil prices and shortage in hops...:rant:

um no. about 20% is tax, 50ish % is raw product cost, 20% is oil company share for overhead and refining and 5%ish for the stations. However if oil companies are showing record profits and they essentially get a similar share to governments, it is no wonder the government does nothing about the cost of gas.

I was listening to the news this morning and they said that EXXON's yearly profit jumped to 17% at 18 Billion dollars. Chevrons and other Gas Companies are asked to state their profit margins.

Prs. Bush is right. Congress needs to let go of all these environmental laws and stop this non-sense of Environment and going Green. We need to start drilling and we need to start building refineries. Scientists said that we have more oil this country compare to others because of fossils....dinosaurs.

we need to focus on the environment but the crap cant happen overnight...it has to settle in...we do need to drill more...but I will never listen to bush cause he is associated with oil and I hate him (for many reasons)

I have heard that we have refineries but they are out dated compared to the rest of the word. I also believe that if we sold the Alaskan oil here in the states instead of selling it to Russia we would have cheaper gas.
