Anybody else gamble here?

Just wondering if anybody here gambles. I work in a casino as a poker dealer, I also play poker in other casinos. heading to Vegas in July, to play some poker and do some assorted gambling. I have gone every year for the past 5 years, I am comped my hotel room and meals so it is a cheap vacation. I was also just in Reno with my g/f in April.
My car was bought and paid for with casinos money, as was my sound system, ipod touch, gps, tv, bed, and some other things. over the past 2 years I have won in excess of 65k. I am completely out of debt, and i have no major payments. Now not everyone is this lucky but I was just curious about your gambling habits.

I used to play poker A LOT (thats where I got my sn ;) ), but I dont play that much anymore.

I played in Vegas before and Im going again next month.

I do profusely. Its actually not a great thing, but I don't gamble when im down either. Mostly horses, football, and poker.

I am actually looking into checking out the horses. It is a little foreign to me but we do have a few tracks out here and one is only 15 minutes from my house. could be fun. I don't do too much sports betting. I do bet on UFC fights from time to time though and some boxing.

Got about 3 more months until I can legally hit Vegas. But I'm not really into it much. I'll take a swing at the slots or some hands at the cards, but nothing hardcore. Gambling's not allowed here, with the exception of the races. So other than that or a game night at a friend's place, there's not much else.

But I have a friend that won over $70k by gambling. He's not in debt, but it was a problem at one point. He got help, bought a car with some of the money, put the rest in savings, and hasn't gambled since.

Then your friend is doing very well for himself. Most gamblers who have a problem with it tend to degenerate very quickly and most don't recover. Nice to see someone clawed their way out. Personally i think slots are the worst for addictive gambling, and they are the most likely to be approved.

I have learned that gambling successfully has nothing to do with winning and losing. Its has EVERYTHING to do with self control, patience, and knowing when to stop.

As for my own gambling, I usually play horses online or OTB's, poker usually either in house games, or underground tournaments in Indy. Football, well, bookies and online, although I shouldn't talk about the bookies.

It took him out of college for about a year, but he was still fortunate to have gotten help in time. It was the online poker that caused him the most trouble. He'd make/lose thousands in a matter of hours, all in the comfort of his home.

that is exactly right. I play poker and plan on winning 200 per session with a max 200 dollar buy in. whether that means i am playing for 5 minutes or 6 hours. I don't rebuy or try to chase my losses. I have a bankroll solely for gambling and half the money i win goes back into it, the other half goes to my vacation fund. The only reason i replenish or build my bankroll is to move into higher limit games where the better players are. Anyone who has played donkey poker with a bunch of river chasers knows how much suckage exists there.

Exactly. Once self control is lost then things start fading, and fast. Knowing when to stop is the key to gambling. Luck is just that, luck. Strategy is also a big part, but it's not the deciding factor as to whether you'll win or lose money. The only way to do that is to agree to play or decide it's time take a break.

I was in Dallas shortly after my 18th birthday and bought my first Scratch Card for $10. Ended up winning $100 dollars off it. I decided to call it quits then. My mom won $15 off hers and decided to use her winnings to try for another. She didn't get anything from it. In total, she lost $10 plus the extra $5. I got back my $10 plus $90 extra.

I play poker on occasion, and we always gamble on the golf course. Made $2k last year over the course of the year on the course. And while I don't condone street racing, occsionally when we go to watch, someone will throw doen a bet or two.

Sorry I worded that wrong.

We're usually not there watching it. We're usually drving through town and then we'll see one on the street and one of my friends will say "five bucks the blue camaro gets the holeshot". We're not going to go and keep up with them, but my friends will watch them take off

Hardly what you'd call gambling, but hey, a bet is a bet
