  • Drove a G8 GT last weekend

So last weekend me and the wife were ridin around goofin off and I said I wanted to swing by the Pontiac dealership and look at a GTO, she was like that's cool. So we stop in some dealership in Arlington and they had 5 G8 base models and 1 GT, actually I didn't realize the base models were v6's without looking at the sticker.
3 were black 2 were red, the black looked soooo awesome. Anyway the salesman walks up and I was up front and told him I saw the car at the auto show, I usually don't buy new cars but I have been following the G8 since it was announced and I wanted to drive one to see how I like it.
He was like, "well if you wanna drive one I'm sure it's gonna be a v8," I agreed. :D
He starts going to each one looking at the window sticker because he said you can't tell the difference by looking at them. They were all 6's, a few spaces away there was a v8, the only one on the lot, parked in another spot.
It was that orange color, I didn't care. He said it's likely someone is trying to sell it right now so I'll run in and get the keys for ya. Get's my license comes back out with the keys and we take it for a ride.
The first thing he tells me is if you want to use the auto stick turn the traction control off. That is the best way to get a real feel for the car. This was a first for me.
I have to say it was an awesome driving car, balance was great, ride was tight and that six speed auto would downshift in a hurry and you were gone, hardly any lag in the response, mash throttle instant speed.
We didn't take it for a long drive proably 2 or 3 miles tops, the fuel light was flashing so I didn't get on it too much but man I was impressed.
The interior was pretty nice also, not quite sure about all the different textures but everything had a clean feel and felt pretty high quality.

The difference in price between the v6 and the v8 was only like 2 grand and the mileage was pretty close. I have to say if my next car must have 4 doors this one is proably gonna be it!

I'm ready and waiting for the camaro and when it does come out it will get a close look. If pontiac handles this car right, puts the money behind the advertising, which hasn't been nearly enough as far as I have seen. This is going to be a great car for them. Oah and if there are issues they should address them not hide and say nothing is wrong. That will go further than anything to build brand loyalty.

If GM can keep coming out with cars like that one they will turn around!

C&D raved about the G8 in the latest review. All I can say is:

no manual = EPIC FAIL :(

If they bolt a 6-speed to it, I will consider it for my next car.

Thats wierd how you posted a thread like this. Yesterday I saw a G8 GT for the first time driving around and thought that it was a really sick looking car. So I did some research on it and everything. I was wondering how it actually drove and then you post this. Nice! Although I can't afford it, I would definately consider one if I could. Also, I had no idea it was RWD, which makes it even better.

"Pontiac says the GT will have EPA ratings of 15 mpg city/24 mpg highway." - Edmunds

For the v6, "Mileage is only slightly better than the V8, with EPA estimates of 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway. " - Edmunds

Iam going to be test driving it here shortly and so far I don't like it. I wish Pontiac would stop bringing out all these "Holdens" and bring back the T/A!.

Me too, I'd like to hear a GTO vs G8 comparison. My 06 GTO had great useable power, i'd be looking for the same thing in a G8.

Sounds like GM is using the old f-body platform under the Pontiac brand to foster in the G8
