Did you think about making him sign a contract that he gets to use the car ONLY if he drives responsibly, keeps it clean, etc? Have his parents hang it where he sees it every day to remind him?

That's a pretty good idea. I know that the urge to screw around once you get something that's got balls behind it stretches ya regardless of how "good" you are. But then again, everyone does something now and again anyway.
