not too much compared to what we get from overseas... but i don't think more oil will help anything, honestly i don't think we will EVER run out... i think eventually gas prices will get to the point people say "f*** this..." gas companies own the technology to get us away from gas-powered vehicles... but why would they? they're making bank, and keep pushing up prices, till there is a big push or reason to switch...but hell, they'll end up making money on the non gas-powered cars anyway, just be cheaper...problem is, when gas prices rise, so does everything else...and the government prints off money and causes inflation... the dollar decreases everyday, and the national debt increases...:( and IMO disel, biofuel, is just a scam, it takes more fuel to harvest and process it, than what it makes, its a negative energy... i hate paying for gas

He didn't compare it to overseas when you first said it. Different context.

First of all, think about all the change this little $2 hike has made? See how many hybrids are running around? How about motocycles? 4 cyls?

If $2 can change it THAT much, how much more do you think another $2 will change? The more the oil prices go up, the more we switch to alternative transportation (which strong progress is being made in).

Lotus made a car (Tusla Roadster or something like that) that runs for about a cent a mile and also goes hella fast and looks decent too. I also heard of 100% Eth pumps being put into households for $10k that make it cheaply as well.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

im not saying it won't... and that there hasn't been anychange... but im saying for a significant we're-not-using-gas powered cars... the price of gas is going to go way up first...

Gas companies dont own any technology to get us away from gas-powered cars. Can't remember the last time I seen a FOMOCO gas station, or a GM Certified station. Auto companies have the technology, and if anyone is keeping up with the news, the Chevy Volt has now been approved for production, and we will be seeing the first models in 2010. Auto companies won't side with the oil companies, because they know they can make money off selling eco-friendly and gas saving econoboxes. Id say give it 5-8 years, and the gas prices are going to bottom out because of the lack of demand. These cars are selling WELL, and gas guzzlers are not selling.

As for alternative fuels, you gotta read up on them. Ethanol from CORN only yields 1.3 parts to every 1 part of petroleum, but switchgrass on the other hand yields 8 parts to every 1 part petroleum, which may become a viable alternative to gas and corn ethanol alike. Saying its a negative energy is false.

But for prices now, I just pay it. I don't complain, because whether its $5 a gallon, or $6 or $8, I have to get to work. I could carpool, and that will work, but I still have to get to and from work. So I just pump the gas, keep quiet, and deal with it.

I don't know about WAY up. I think demand might bottom out before that.
