I'm still holding out hope for hydrogen (if it can be better stabilized somehow) and the air compressed car that the French are/were/supposedly/mythically working on. I read about it in Reader's Digest like a year or so ago, and have heard nothing more about it. I asked this a few weeks ago, but has anyone heard an update? This oil situation is really getting kinda hairy. I mean, what if gas does hit $10/g? Now people said 2 years ago that gas would never hit $4/g, but look where we're at. At $10/g can you imagine what this would do to our economy if we're still so dependant on oil?

compressed air my ***. good luck holding out on that one. what do air compressors run off of? gas or electricity. and where do we get those from?

crude oil, or other forms of fossil fuel. problem recreated.

as for hydrogen. that could work. that's what GM is working on right now, and the stability of hydrogen isn't much of a concern. It's the fact that hydrogen in it's elementary form harnesses alot of potential energy, and we need to find a way to protect it from a collision.

we also need to mass produce a way to extract hydrogen from water in the form of a fuel cell. Which isn't cheap, and currently isn't fast enough to keep up with the current hydrogen combustion engine.

Again, how many times do people have to resay this. It's not the oil companies, its the analysts and them dip****s that predict that we're gonna run short on oil and the like so they boost the price. Not like boosting the price is going to do much good because we buy it anyways and it doesnt solve anything by raising the price. You may think to yourself "well hell, i'm gonna by a more gas efficient car". You can go do that because when you buy one and see that your gas mileage has increased you're going to go cruising and take trips. So that better gas mileage you are getting doesnt really help this "shortage" that we have cause you're going to be buying at the same rate that you were when you were driving your non gas efficient car.

So if you want to shove your foot up anyones ***...let it be the morons that are predicting this crap.

Take it from an older guy - we've seen this before. First comes the super expensive gas prices. Next comes big price inflation for everything in general. We're just seening the tip of the iceberg in terms of food prices.

18-25% inflation per year is a real possibility - and your wages will not inflate as quickly. Think about the possibility also of buying having to things now because in two month the prices will be noticably higher and you're wages will not have increased.

As far as gas prices - you have zero options except to try to drive on less optional trips and to try to car pool more.

People wondered why in the world there was ever 4 cylinder F body - it will be coming back in the new 5th gen Camaro.
