I don't carry guns, i do carry a knife though, but not for protection. One time on the way to breakfast with my parents, we came up on a head-on collision that closed the road down. My step-dad being a police officer naturally lended a helping hand, even though he had just worked midnight shift in baltimore city's eastern district, and we all jumped in to create a bucket line from a nearby house so we could put out the car that was on fire. We arrived on-scene prior to any emergency services so it was just us and a bunch of other un-certified volunteers. Anyway, while we were working on putting the fire out, my step-father pulled a gentlemen out of one car and laid him on the ground. The gentlemen said he'd be fine, to go help the other people. He started cutting through the seatbelts to resuce an elderly couple out of the burning vehicle, and had it not been for that knife, the two may have burned to death. Anyway, outcome was the elderly couple survived thanks to my step dad, and are now in good health, unfortunetly the other gentlemen was suffering from uncontrollable internal bleeding, he passed away before the paramedics arrived, and there was nothing any of us, or the medics could have done to save him.

So now I carry a knife wherever I go...you never know when you might need it... I also decided to get certified in first aid and cpr after this event...

Just a little good samaritan story.

I would like to help, and sometimes feel bad that I can't, but it's just not safe for a 110lb 20 year old female to pull over and help just anyone on the road. Every once in a while I may make a judgment call and pull over to see if someone needs help, but lately people don't even thank you for trying to help them. In a parking lot, I'll ask if someone needs help with something or if they need to use my phone to call someone. Other than that, there's not much else I can do.

And i agree on the part about society going to hell. I have always been lucky enough to live in very safe areas, but some of the surrounding areas are pretty ****ty. I am in the process of finding a nice handgun (or two or three) and getting my concealed carry permit. My parents dont really understand why I feel that I need it, but they have been very sheltered, and after some of the sh!t i've seen... lol.
S&W makes a very nice 9mm. My dad owns 2 of them, and I keep one on the nightstand next to my bed. Also, we have a .40 by Glock and that is the most accurate handgun I've ever fired, and I've been around guns since I was a kid.

Look into a revolver called the Judge by Taurus. It fires off .410 shotgun shells and .45's. Very acurate for a powerful gun, the grip is the most comfortable I've ever held, and the good thing is if you're in a life or death situation, you can fire off the .410 as your first shot and you're guaranteed to hit your target. This comes in handy as in most bad situations you're not going to be able to get into a good stance, your target is going to be within 10 yards, and you'll be drawing your firearm out quickly from a holster and taking the safety off. If you're interested in this gun then act quick (before next Feburary), because there's some do-good group trying to get Taurus to stop production.

Thanks for the advice! As of now, I'm looking at a springfield XD9, or an H&K P30 (9mm) for a carry gun. Then I'm thinking about a springfield 1911, probably a loaded or something, to have a .45 that will be a car/nightstand gun. For someone who is fairly new to handguns, I want to get something tame that I will be able to shoot accurately with, hence the decision to pick up a 9mm. Placement of shots is key, and a well-placed 9mm shot will do enough damage ;).

I don't leave the doors unlocked with a sign out front saying "rob me". I also have a keyed entry so its a moot point.

depends mood and what I have to do. I have helped some peopel but not all.

I will offer a quick hand to a broken car in a parking lot, I rarely pull over to help.

but 2 22 year old chicks, even if they are average, I'd help :)

Heck I really helped one girl she had an older BMW(like a 96), with a flat, but she had aftermarket rims on it and her tire iron didn't fit. Wasn't far from my house so I ran home and got a socket wrench for it and got it off.

Let me tell you, the 1911 is a good overall gun. My friend's dad owns one and that thing is smooth. Only complaint I have with it is it can be difficult to load the clip if you're new to guns or have been firing for an hour or so at the range. But the odds of you being in a situation where you're reloading clips or firing for an hour is hopefully very unlikely lol. I'd suggest it for a carry weapon, but going to the range with it just to have fun can become a bit of a pain after a while. My friend's dad raves about it though- says he's never had a misfeed or a jam up or anything go wrong. I personally give it an 8/10 only because it's not the best gun for taking to a range.

I probably would've pulled over, but I'm just kind like that. =) Especially if it was just 1 chick, because there's less of a chance than both of them being armed to rob you. >=(
