FANTASTIC game in progress right now on NBC. Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals going into the 3rd OT. If Pittsburgh scores the next goal, then they go to Pitt for game 6. If Detroit scores next, they win the Cup. Even if you're not a hockey fan, this is a great game!

Re: Any hockey fans here?
aww to hell with all of you and to hell with the pens....
that game had some of the worst reffing i've seen in a long time and THE worst i've ever seen in a stanley cup final
Ref's gettin in the way, ref's arguing over icing and offsides calls, b/s penalties for goalie interference IN OVERTIME and ignoring so much of the hooking and holding that they'd been calling all series for some stupid reason...
I'm not gonna blame the refs for the outcome, pitt won fair n square, but its FUBAR'd that they got dominated as much as they did, in EVERY SINGLE stat category and then pulled out the win.
I'm just ticked that my wings dropped the damn ball at the end of the 3rd and were coasting around like the cup was guaranteed...

Re: Any hockey fans here?
^ I'll agree the goalie interference calls are ridiculous, but that has been consistently bad for the entire playoffs...nothing Detroit didn't already know. If you so much as breathe on the goalies u'll get called. The rule is supposed to be reviewed in the offseason with amendments made so refs can call it more fairly, but untill then they made it clear early on they'd call everything.

Re: Any hockey fans here?
I'm thrilled they won, was on the edge of my seat from when I got home from work at 11:15 until the end.
To be honest, I myself was wondering what the calls were when they were made. I'm sitting there going "Penalty for what? Being within 10 feet of the goalie?" I mean I saw Flyers players literally tackle Fleury without a penalty.
The last one though, that one was accurate. So was the call against Sykora.
I didn't see the first 3 periods, because I was at work, but in the last 3 both teams looked like Cup quality teams. This Pittsburgh fan has nothing but respect for Detroit's team, they play a strong clean game.
Best set of games I've seen in years. Fast skilled play, no hanging onto a guy riding him down the ice, no tackling the guy with the puck with 3 people.
I'm very happy to be both a hockey fan and a Pens fan right now :) This series is how hockey's meant to be played!

The players have simply been too worried about getting penalties to actually play hockey. The announcers were saying the whole time that it would be terrible to see the game be decided by a power play, and guess what! Granted that penalty was justified, it was still sh!tty.
Yes, it was a good game to watch. I was just very frustrated with the fact that the wings dominated, yet lost.2002 SOM Camaro- Sold

Firstly, that wasn't even close to being the longest game in NHL history. For that you'll have to go back to 1936 when Detroit scored in the 6th overtime period against Montreal. Last night's game was only the 5th longest game in Stanley Cup Finals games, and probably not even top 20 all time.
Secondly, there have been bigger disapointments in Nhl history. The Penguins weren't as 'dominated' as everyone is making it out to be. The Pens hit just as many posts and crossbars as Detroit. More shots on goal doesn't always equal 'domination' guys.
Anyways, at least we can call it a real series now...finally some excitement!

I do have to agree that the goalie interference calls were BS and I'm glad that the game didn't end on either of those power plays. The last high stick penalty on Detroit though was totally justified.
Game 6 should be a good one back in Pittsburgh.-Travis
99 Trans Am, Pewter, A4 Forged, stalled, and cammed
85 Buick Regal WH1 T-Type It\'d be cool if it ran...
94 Camaro 3.4, Teal, M5 The daily beater
