i drive jet fuel and avgas trucks, which run on diesel (even tho we use jet fuel in them) around all day at work...you get used to waiting a few seconds before starting up, not to prime, but because of the glow plugs in a diesel engine...so waiting a bit is just force of habit in other gasoline powered cars now.

It sounds like even my remote starter primes the car...I hear the zzzzzzzz, then the crank over...

the only real reason we'd need to do this with out cars would be if a check valve went out and the lines emptied when the car was cut off

I've done it in all cars I've driven. It's just habit. A time to listen for anything unusual before startup.

Then again, I keep my foot on the brake pedal when I turn the key. Just how I was taught.

I only do this when my cars been sitting for a while. Definitely helps when i fire her up especially in the spring since its been sitting since the fall. When I drive it more frequent there is no need.

no prime, just start it up!!! took me awhile to dump the habit of re-setting the auto choke on an older car. get in, mash the gas pedal to the floor once quickly, then start.

well being i'm running a built carbed 350 so i have to tap the gas a few times too

I've never heard of doing this.
