Audacity is a decent free program for what it sounds like you're going to be doing.

I was just about to recommend Audacity. I often use it instead of my Adobe Soundbooth and Cubase. It's a simple program, clean and easy. It's kinda feels like Pro Tools a little.

              http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

I'm using the 1.3 beta version right now and I like it.

Yeah, you need the LAME mp3 dll to save files to MP3 format. Easy find though... I can send it to you if you like.

It took me forever to find it, I think I finally had to e mail those people and ask them where the heck to find it. So they just emailed me the link

                      adobe audition 2.0

                      or protools 7.0

we used both in the studio i played for, they're great.

prefer protools but its hard to d/l and expensive to buy
