  • Mopar quality.

My sister has a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan, boring... I know
    She bought it brand new.

It has 20,000 miles, and she doesnt drive hard, she drives like an old lady and it's pretty annoying to ride with her, or follow her driving.

Her van has been in about 5 times in the last year, for warranty issues.

Once one of her fuel injectors crapped out, they replaced it.
3 times she had o2 sensors fail
and one other time, a spark plug wire somehow melted itself, and was causing bad arching under the hood, these were all covered under warranty.

I came home from work yesterday, and there was a huge puddle of oil in my driveway, and I figured it was from her, because she swings by my house during the day to take my dog for a walk while im at work.

I went to check it out, and let her know it was leaking oil and tried crawling underneath enough to look, but its too low, and didnt feel like screwing with it.

called the dealership, had it towed and they called her back today to tell her there is massive engine damage and she's getting a whole new engine installed, brand new from factory.

Now, I checked the oil level, and it still had some on the dipstick, so it's not like she was running completely dry, so apparantly it grenaded itself... Freaking 20,000 miles, It's good its covered under warranty but seriously, their engines arent lasting long these days, and I gave you a preview of how she drives to prove it's not from abuse.

    talk about crappy quality

No kidding, maybe if they stopped using tin foil and plastic to build their engines they wouldnt have to have such a spectacular warranty.

Ive never really looked into any of that kind of stuff, but was under the impression that was for used cars only, IDK, nevermind me... I strongly suggest she sells this pig before the final warranty is up, if the first engine only lasted 20k miles, what happens when this same thing happens again and it's not covered under warranty? :bs:

Yeah, I mean... Im sure not all dodges are bad, because Ive been considering buying a dodge truck within the next year or so, but not anymore.
I had a dodge car a long time ago, it blew a head gasket at 60k and the motor went 20k miles later.

I'd say the lifetime powertrain warranty is more a demonstration of the improvements they've been making in the past years. Personally I don't think they would put a warranty like that on a car because they know it's going to fall apart. They lose money on warranty claims.

That said they don't seem to be the most reliable cars, and I won't deny that. Though we have never had any problems with our Dodge truck, even at 11 years old, it only has 60k miles, so who knows. The V10 sure has some towing power.

It could also be said that people know the quality dodge is known for having and would steer people away from purchasing new vehicles, but with the lifetime powertrain warranty maybe it's safe to buy them.

Also, it's taking 2 weeks to replace, and they didnt, and wouldnt provide her with a rental car.

Very true, but I don't think they would put a warranty like that on their cars if they thought they were going to get a ton of warranty claims.

Thats funny that you mention that, Matt LOL. My buddy's mom had a Caravan that was littered with issues and was a total pile of $hit as well.

                        Mopar = teh suck.

Mopars always had quality issues. Ford and Gm killed them in sales. Ever wonder why their muscle cars are worth so much now. No one bought them back then and now there are considered rare. They made improvements in quality, then mercedes put them back down into the dumper. MOPAR, My Old Plymouth Aint Runnin.

                            thats not true at all

mopar has made some of the BEST engines back then

plus, car pricing has nothing to do with how rare a car is, it has to do with how much money someone is willing to pay for a car

i have seen old muscle cars go for hundreds of thousands of dollars with many around, and some that are very rare go for little

for instance, i know a guy who had a 69' camaro, one of 15, and he sold it for about 60k, which doesnt justify the price of a zl1 camaro (about 5 left) of 500k+

With dodge it seems to be a hit or miss. My mother only bought dodge caravans. Note: She beat on her vehicles.

-List over 16 years- all bought used with less then 75,000 miles (As my mother would never buy a van with more.)

                              86 caravan - 141,000 miles.original tranny and engine. mint sold $300
91 caravan - 120,000 miles. all original still running strong. sister totaled.
94 caravan - 162,000 miles. everything replaced except the engine and tranny. my other sister totaled getting t-boned. With me in the car.
97 caravan - 117,000 miles. This van was a lemon. Tranny blows reverse and first gear only retained. She drove that car 11,000 miles using only the first gear. Totaled while being rearened.
                              -Current-
01 caravan - 89,000 miles. Some rust going strong. Mothers
03 caravan - 71,000 miles. Mint going strong. Sisters
