    Re: Mopar quality.

they did have the issue of the "blue smoke of death", but in late 90's/early 2000 started to get better. My old supv/coworker has a durango that's still runnign good (first gen non-minivan looking style), and another coworker had the same style, but had to get the 5.9 replaced due to crappy crappiness. hit & miss it seems, but amc/dodge/chysler/plymouth is a brand I've never driven by choice or desperation.

mopar has made some of the BEST engines back then

plus, car pricing has nothing to do with how rare a car is, it has to do with how much money someone is willing to pay for a car

i have seen old muscle cars go for hundreds of thousands of dollars with many around, and some that are very rare go for little

for instance, i know a guy who had a 69' camaro, one of 15, and he sold it for about 60k, which doesnt justify the price of a zl1 camaro (about 5 left) of 500k+
does it really matter how good of engines they built back then with the hemi etc if the ****ing car fell apart? no. junk is junk no matter what was under the hood.

current car- 95 Trans am- bolt ons, parked and collecting dust. why? because **** it

        Re: Mopar quality.

        Cam98aro,

I didn't say mopar never made great engines. The hemi is one of the best engines ever built. Vanibibber hit the nail on the head. I also agree not all rare cars are worth big bucks, but rare high performance models do add significantly to the value. Take first gen camaros for example. SS and z28 are worth more than regular v8 camaros. Yenko', bergers, nicki's 427 copo, and zl1's draw big money vs regular 69 big block camaros even z28's because there are a lot less of them and they are considered rare. Didn't a 70 hemi cuda convertible sell for 2 or 3 mil at Barret jackson? It was 1 of 7 cars built. I'm pretty sure that was the main reason it sold for that much. The hardtop hemi coupes and 440 six pack cars didn't sell for that much. By the way, of the 69 ZL-1 camaros built, there are more than 5 left. This post is from 2006

          Re: Mopar quality.

          yep they suck...

we have a 2k2 ram that floats around the family... motor/tranny is ok, but worst gas mileage ever and tons of little crap problems.

like the CD player going out, blower motor resistor, window motor, power lock solenoid. Thing has like 80k on it.

            Re: Mopar quality.

Please dont get me wrong here. I Have been a Mopar/ GM guy my whole life. I currently own a 99 Bird, 87 GN and a 06 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T, amongst some other grocery getters. That Charger is one badass vehicle. I have had no issues at all. What we have to realize is that all brands will have there problems. Why do we have so many electrical problems with our F-bodies? Why does the 460le have so much trouble cruising at 40-45 mph? What we all share in common is that we do not drive Honda's or Toyota's. I cant stand even being in one. Ill walk, thank you!

i have a gm 3.4l engine in one car (and we all know how crappy they are) that was a RENTAL car for the first 34k miles

and its doing just fine at 90k
now wait a second why is the 3.4 crappy?
mine has over 199k miles on it makes more power than when brand new with minor mods doesnt shake or vibrate as bad as a 3800 with 80k on it and still gets better than 25 mpg, wile getting the piss driven out of it every day. doesnt burn oil unless we do a drift day which means more than 3k rpm for hours on end. So please other than being anemic and not having a aftermarket to speak of whats so bad.
