yeah it was wierd, I have an issue with my wife's rear durms on her Cavalier,(actuallly had the issue as long as she had the car. Unfortuneately there isn't a quick/easy cavalier conversion or I would have just done it by now.

ashame you couldnt follow the drum to disc brake conversion off of here eh?
Yes, but in 1902 they were high tech. They are still used on semis, disc brakes just can't cut it.
.
id still call em high tech today. theres more moving parts and intricate design than a piston pushing a flat thing into a spinning thing. it amazes me a shop will charge less to service drum brakes vs discs. discs are just two bolts!
i realize now though that i had the ebrake on the front of the shoe, when it was supposed to be on the back. i also didnt have the auto adjuster actuator thing in the proper position. i could try again, or just save it the miles and drive another car till i get the new rear.

at one time drums were the choice for drag racing, due to the better stopping power
drum brakes can be adjusted so that the pads aren't touching the drums, and thus no friction. w/discs, there will always be 1 pad in contact w/the rotor.
sidenote: the 63 Studebaker Cruiser I had actually had front disc brakes. the rotors weren't vented, and the pads were like 2" squares.
looks like my old one
