should have got an estimate first i suppose.

u prlly could have done most of that work yourself.

but hey, if it's a decent rebuild, you've got like 150K miles left in ur car...drive it til the wheels fall off!

no he seems to have like 80k, seems rebuilds never last as long as factory motors...

and he only has a rebuilt motor... that doesn't include...

                            tranny
                            computer
                            rear

                            power steering

                            sensor gremlins

and all the other **** that will nickle and dime you like crazy on an old car.

to be honest, I don't think he was that overcharged on the rebuild, and all the labor done at a shop. If its a "performance" shop they usually charge a little more then a mom and pop garage.

A shop would charge like $1500 labor to install a motor and all the ther ****. Then a full motor rebuild from top to bottom? $1500 isn't too unreasonable. Then rest is probably parts. I am sure a rebuild kit with pistons rings, gaskets, the water pump, belt, fluids all the other **** could add up to $1100

Now do I think it was dumb to do that? yep.

I just think he should have tossed a junkyard motor in or sold it as a shell.

                              Would have kept the $4k
Tried to get $1-2k out of the car

then bought something like this if I had to have an F-body still
