to be honest, I don't think he was that overcharged on the rebuild, and all the labor done at a shop. If its a "performance" shop they usually charge a little more then a mom and pop garage.
A shop would charge like $1500 labor to install a motor and all the ther ****. Then a full motor rebuild from top to bottom? $1500 isn't too unreasonable. Then rest is probably parts. I am sure a rebuild kit with pistons rings, gaskets, the water pump, belt, fluids all the other **** could add up to $1100
Now do I think it was dumb to do that? yep.
I just think he should have tossed a junkyard motor in or sold it as a shell.
Would have kept the $4k
Tried to get $1-2k out of the car
