From what I was told, the store that accepted card charges takes the hit...because they didn't do there job to verify the ID of the user.
When I was a teenager, somebody stole both my parents cars out of the garage (detached). It was a brand new jaguar and a brand new Tacoma. My mom had left her purse locked in the car. That was a pain in the ***. It took months to get everything straightened out.

Re: Wallet Stolen!!
I wouldn't worry about the credit card or license. Those can be replaced. They will issue your driver's license as "replacement" on the actual license. The credit card bank will cancel and close the account.
The social security card is another story. That's a REALLY bad thing to lose which is why you shouldn't ever carry it on you. You don't get another one of those and they can steal your identity, open other accounts and possibly get into your social security. You're going to have to keep an eye on that. There are several sites online that tell you exactly how to keep tabs. There's a number you can call. Hopefully the person doesn't know your "mother's maiden name" in the meantime. Otherwise, you can kiss your social security goodbye.2004 CE Corvette 10.86@132mph
