  • Great FL vacation spot?

So I want to go down to Florida for five days next month and I was wondering if anyone's been to a great spot down in Florida that is not among the most popular ones (Destin, Panama City, Miami, Daytona, Orlando, Tampa). I guess I'm trying to find somewhere with a great beach that I have not been to before where I can relax and just forget all about the stress from work.

Anna Marie Island/Longboat Key is EXACTLY what you want then. There's a bridge that connects the two. Great sand on Longboat Key, phenominal resturants on Anna Marie. Best undiscovered beach for my money. One year I spent every weekend down there, I love that place.

Def not daytona, panama or cocoa, Jax isn't so bad, st augustine for the historic part. If you want to get away the southwest by tampa is good or the keys.

come down to sarasota. siesta key (voted #2 on travel channel's top fl beaches) is one of the best beaches in the state, if not the US. i work at the ritz carlton beach club off lido key, right down the road from longboat key that FirebirdPhil mentioned. i talk to first time visitors of sarasota all the time and they love it here.

whatever you do, don't come to Vero Beach. The beach is meh, good for skimming i guess, but that's about it; we usually have a bunch of seaweed washing up everywhere. As for other stuff to do, there's nothing. The restuarants are OK if you don't mind shelling out $30 a person for a mediocre meal.

ever try universal or islands of adventure? these parks are geared more for adults and have much better rides. if you like roller coasters then IOA is the place to go. marvel comics > disney characters

busch gardens is in tampa, which is only about an hour north of sarasota. this park has the best roller coasters in the state. just something to think about.

btw i use to work for universal selling tickets to UO/IOA, seaworld, and busch gardens. ;)

If you end up going to Anna Marie let me know and I can give you a list of what resturants are good, what nights to go, parking tips, etc. I know the ins & outs of that island.

Yeah, check out Busch Gardens and/or Disney. Just at rip north on I-75 and then onto I-4 to get to Disney.

Does that mean you have the hook-ups? :) I actually get 2 free tickets to Universal Studios if I book for four nights at a hotel through my job (Bank of America)
