Re: how do you handle lazy people?

The thing is, South American workers (you know the ones) have no form of loyalty to the company. They have no reason to stay on good terms with employers because they jump around so much.

With me instead, I have more incentive to stay on good terms. I have the ability to advance in "rank". The way I found the job is that they landscape at my house... and I walked out and asked for a job. So I have more of a connection with them than the hondurans do.

I know it is not my job to be tattling on others... but this directly affects me! they will skip stuff at MY house when we are landscaping here, and my parents will be paying for work that is not getting done. In addition, when something goes wrong, I'm the one that gets yelled at. The bosses know that the other guys don't understand english well, so I am the one that has to go redo stuff right, etc.
Because of these guys slacking, I am working above my pay grade. My boss has realized this and been appreciative (buys me breakfast/lunch, gives me small bonuses, etc), but it is still rough!

And I have only talked to the bosses about it when they have asked... I dont go to them just to tell them that someone isnt doing their work.

Laziness is a ****ing disease. Good thing about a union, if you have someone thats lazy, we can just fire your ***, and replace you the same day.

lol this is a good story. i like so many others can relate to but it may not have been wise to throw your coworkers under the bus like that.

Re: how do you handle lazy people?

Gosh here in Calif. it is completely the opposite. White and Black people don't wanna work and they let the Hispanics do the work for them.

I'm Asian so I'm not baise to any race or ethinicity here. But I got into a fight once when I used to work on the loading dock for Viking Freight. This white dude was a warehouse worker just like any of us. Out of the guys there only he and I can speak English, but I got an edge on him because I knew Spanish.

Well he likes to boss people around and tell them what to do. He made himself into a supervisor and nobody challenge him on it. It was 120* in the warehouse and I was tired and hot. He started bossing me around and I told to F off. The guys just looked at me like "OH.... " and the next thing I know we were at it. I was all over him.

To make a long story short, I got Fired for fighting. Nothing happen to him because he was a nephew of one of the bosses there.

I wouldn't take it from anyone. I would tell my boss right away. It may make me unpopular or hated, but who cares. Atleast I've done the right thing.

if someone is lazy...i warm them and that doesn't work..thats it....we let them go. i'm not going to waste my companies money and my time.

your boss knows that your working...and if he's looking to you for reports that means he trust you. give him the report. the trust will only grow from there.

sucks but in this world you have to watch your own ***

The lazy people don't schedule his hours/pay his check.

I dunno, I work from a manager standpoint. I have supervisors that work down with them and tell them to keep me informed with the staff.

then I have a few hard working employees that I give talk to to inform me about the supervisors, who they are chummy with and how they act when I am not around.

My thing is if your lazy and ****ty I give you crappy shifts and no hours, if your good, I will work you on some harder shifts but I will bend alot more to your schedule.

example, had one really ****ty kid, I worked him 2 shifts a week. form 6pm-8p, on Friday and saturday nights. We needed extra people those days and it made my scheduling a bit easier to do if I did it.

Was great, screw with his fri/sat night(he was in HS) and he only got 16 hours a month.

If my team members can't keep up with me... their gone. I'm old, broken and decrepit... so they better be able to keep up!!

Have a couple of new guys starting this week because I'm losing my summer kids... so we'll see how well they keep up

Funny thing this should come up today; I get into work, and me, the night manager and the other driver are all scheduled to come in at the same time, so if we're not busy I'll help them out getting things set-up and such. Well the opening manager is supposed to prep everything, have a list of "chores" for the drivers, and all that hoobla to be ready for the night rush. We get in and NOTHING is done; she had to deal with a whole 10 orders over an 8hr period, and claims she couldn't find time to do the rest of the stuff; however, after takin out the trash I see she had time to go to the store and get a canollie (sp) and SubWay! As soon as she left, we called it in to the store supervisor. Funny thing is she was hoping to get a raise here soon too!
